AC/DC hit Canad Inns Stadium Saturday night for the first time back in Winnipeg since 2001 , and did not disappoint. Some 40, 000 plus fans came and went home extremely happy. The “thunder from down under” literally blew the stadium up and also, made Winnipeg’s day after the Rock on the Range event in July was a soaked affair and Aerosmith/ZZ Top cancelled their August 7th show after Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler fell off the stage the day before in South Dakota injuring his shoulder, thus cancelling the Winnipeg date. Also Mother Nature co-operated after a much soaked (non) summer here in Winnipeg. Did AC/DC usher in what we have left of summer? I think so. Clouds loomed over the sky in the afternoon but before they could expel rain, the sun cleared them off and stayed out till it went down as AC/DC hit the stage at just before nine.

Before AC/DC, Irish rockers The Answer warmed the crowd up with straight ahead rock numbers at 7:45. Their last was an up tempo blues number, that sounded the best out of all their set. The lead singer reminded me of a cross between Chris Robinson of the Black Crows and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant. Their sound on stage seemed murky, but the band didn’t play like sludge.
