Final Thoughts
Final Thoughts
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with the wealth of videos released with 'Plug Me In'. From the packaging & extras to the videos & bonus features, everything they presented came across extremely well and very professional.
My overall rating betwen the two box sets is probably 8.5/10. All of the videos included were great, don't get me wrong. I'm by no means complaining about a new official release from the band. My reasoning for a non perfect score is simple: where was anything from 1985, 1986 and 1988? These 3 years (I'd include 1984, but they included a short interview clip from Donington 1984) are definitely a major part of AC/DC's history. Big hair, big sound, great shows. I would have loved to see a 4th disc included that featured clips from the Rio shows in 1985, as well as some pro shot footage from Australia in 1988 that I've seen clips of. I'd bet there is also some archived film from the time between as well. From that same interview clip of Donington 1984, there was pro shot footage of For Those About to Rock. It just seems to be a bit lacking due to those tours being left out. The Houston 1983 show is huge and all, but there is just that void that many fans consider to be some of their better material.
I would have also liked to see more included from the 2003 shows. Maybe a mention of the Hall of Fame induction and especially the Roseland show would have been great. The re-opening of the Hammersmith in October 2003 seemed to stand out as not just an important night for the venue, but also for the band as that was the last time they took the stage together. Whether or not footage exists from those nights, I really don't know. But I can dream, can't I? :)
And finally (looking at how much I've written is really surprising me as I read it over), this collection definitely does justice to the band. The rough, lean years in the mid 70's to the established and building years of the late 70's and 80's, to the refined and well respected band that was in 2000 through 2003 and still is today, AC/DC. Even an average fan would find a reason to want more after seeing this collection. A die-hard fan would DEFINITELY want more after this collection! Either of these are well worth the cost, so be sure to pick one up today and show your appreciation to the band that has touched so many lives.
To the band & those involved in the creation of this amazing collection of videos and memorabilia, I say thank you.
