Brian Johnson's 3 New Songs Available for Download
The idiot link didn't work. It asked me for my e-mail address (generating leads for something, obviously) and then never sent a link to my e-mail address for me to download the songs. Not even anything in my junk mail folder. Kind of annoying, really...
Notangus, Same here with my "hotmail" mailbox but then I used a "yahoo" one and it worked fine.
notangus, I have GMail and I had to check my spam folder. The songs are good though.
Strange. I tried with Yahoo mail and it didn't work either. Checked my junk mail folder and found lots of stuff for mortgages and viagara, but nothing for this. The songs should eventually turn up in torrents and/or p2p anyways, so it probably really doesn't matter, but it would be nice to go through the official circles out of basic respect for Brian, though. In speculative news, does this mean that once AC/DC completes their first farewell tour Brian will get together with Cliff and a few buddies and embark on a solo career? It has to be said that Brian has been especially busy and creative these last 8 years. Given that, he's probably earned more respect for himself than he did during the first 20 years he was with AC/DC and as these songs prove, he has strong potential as a solo artist, at least among the classic rock crowd.
Well, Brian and Cliff do live not far from each other in Florida. They could get together, recruit the other guys from "Classic Rock Cares", and go and record a full solo album. These songs are good. If Brian spends just a bit more time in the studio (he recored them in one-takes), he could have a "for fun" solo career. It wouldn't be the first time that type of thing has happened, look at Robert Plant. It'd be cool to have that happen. 2008 = high voltage rock 'n' roll
The downloads finally worked for me and I have to say for the first time on this site, I actually agree with travishayes about the quality of the tracks. It's clear in listening to these tracks that: a) Brian believes in what he is singing; and b) He is a much better songwriter than he is given credit for in his contributions to AC/DC It kind of makes me wonder what would have happened during the 80s if Brian was actually allowed to come forward with his own song and lyric ideas, rather than having to come up with lyrics around the Young brother's riffs based on titles they came up with. Maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have had to endure such goofily bad lyrics such as this one from "Sink the Pink" (much as I love the song): Got a fever runnin' high If you wait until you fly and would have had more brilliantly, wittily funny ones like the Who Phoned the Law bit travis has quoted above. If that were the case, more of those songs from the 80s which had the same old amazing riffage from the Young brothers (and which I hope they pull out on the next tour, anyways) may have propelled themselves into the same stratosphere as the Bon classics.
"It kind of makes me wonder what would have happened during the 80s if Brian was actually allowed to come forward with his own song and lyric ideas, rather than having to come up with lyrics around the Young brother's riffs based on titles they came up with." To clarify this statement: What if the Young brothers would have had to work as hard to come up with riffs around Brian's lyrics and melody ideas as Johnson did having to come up with lyrics around the Young brothers' riff and title ideas? Might the interplay have produced a better payoff?
I would love to know how these ended up working. Never did. I had to make my own files by an audio capture program. Never appeared in 2 separate email account or either spam filter of each either. Any suggestions why? It did accept both email accounts as "registering"
I don't know '74. But as for me quoting the lyrics...I decided to make it my sig. I hope that the new album has songs made more like these. This makes me wonder, exactly how many lyric ideas does Brian have leftover from the 80s? I mean, if he wrote like 15 songs for every album, but they only used (on average) 10 or 11, he'd have enough to compile together a solo album from the lyrics alone. But as far as "Brian believing" the lyrics, I think he is more or less just allowing himself to be put into the words, kinda like a comedian joking about himself and his family because it's the most natural thing to observe.
Chase that tail isnt that great, but Chain gang on the Road is really good, along with Who phoned the law.
