AC/DC new album selling store comments
According to Reuters, AC/DC will sell its new album only through Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the Wall Street Journal reported on its website on Sunday, citing unnamed sources. The AC/DC album is expected to come out in the fall, the paper reported. Wal-Mart did not have an immediate comment. 1st it's an info from routers(http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN0840801220080609) not notangus. We have to give credit to the correct people. 2nd. What is this Wal-Mart bull$it? Ok in Greece we don't have a Wal-Mark, so how will we get the album? I know! They will build a Wal-Mart that will only sell the album. Anyway the really serious news (if they are correct) is that the album will come out in the fall). So the unholly Sapator is once again correct ;)
Seriously... Wal-Mart is a soul-suck s*&thole of a company. I have refused to buy anything for that CHINESE Sweatshop store front. The economic devastation that company causes in the US is not funny. I am seriously hoping there are some direct pre-orders like the Plug-Me-In or sadly finding some foreign outlet
"1st it's an info from routers(http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN0840801220080609) not notangus. We have to give credit to the correct people." What is this supposed to mean? I apologize for your illiteracy, sapator, but if you were to actually READ my post, you would see that I posted the link (which was a YAHOO news feed of the REUTERS - not ROUTERS) article. Sapatoe - please refrain from laying down the law in the future unless you actually know the law AND have a basis rooted in reality for enforcing it. Thanks.
ITHINK ITS A BIG MISTAKE TO go with W.M Best Buy is good too. What is it with music groups selling at one place only. who started this crap.
Wal mart takes all the money made over hear, and sends it back to China. Seroiusly. I challenge everybody to find one (1) thing in wal mart that says made in America. No food, gum, candy counts.
aye but you will still buy it tho' !! regardless of where its being sold, its a sellers market people, better get used to that fact
regarding notangus & credit due and all that... My intentions were to give notangus credit for posting the link within the forum, not for writing the article.
totally off topic and irrelevent.but how the devil are you doing Nate? ,well I hope, hope alls well with you n yours, just thought id say hi as your online cheers bud Dave
Ok, maybe AC/DC will have the album where you can buy it online through the AC/DC online store. It wouldn't make any sense to not sell an album of yours on your online store. Second, it's probably referring to American sales, they will probably sell it in the record shops outside of America. But there are a few other artists who have sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, The Eagles, Journey, Garth Brooks, and some others. Also, we have to remember, Wal-Mart recently bought a few thousand copies of "Totally Baked" to sell in stores. One store I don't like to step in is K-Mart. The one where I live just pulled every CD off their shelves, no joke. At least Wal-Mart still sells CDs.
Re: Sapator's laying down the law. I didn't realize you were referring to Nate's post, not mine. However, it still appears Sapator did not look closely at my post and see the link already there, so he could have paid attention a bit. Nate: Thanks for the credit. If you can, you should post the link inside that news item, just to keep things clear. WalMart: Proof of the death of the record industry and that the Young brothers, brilliant guitarists/songwriters that they are, are completely out of touch with the 21st Century (as if the whole exclusive Sprint (or was it Virgin?) digital deal didn't already prove that) and should hire some young blood on the business side (or even Gene Simmons or Jimmy Page) to explain to them the present and the future. While they're at it
No need to buy it from Wal-Mart... I figure nightprowler will download some low quality mp3s, make his own cover and then sell it here for $35....
Worse yet on Wal-Mart... Their health insurance for their employees is TOO EXPENSIVE... think of it as someone making $200 a week take home having to pay $125 a week for health care, so what does Wal-Mart do,... Recommends its employees go on WELFARE. Yeah... Like my taxes are not high enough as it is, but Wal-Mart wants to put all the tax-paying mom and pop stores out of business, off load all its cash to China, and then raise my taxes by having me pay all its employees on Welfare for health care... WAL MART SUCKS. I also wrote to the ACDCROCKS site and asked where they would be selling overseas or if it would be offered online, because I will not buy from Wal-Mart. Sadly, I would LOVE to give ACDC my money for the album, but I can't buy from Wal-mart, so looks like I will just have to borrow from a friend who has less scruples. This coming from someone who has stated I would like to buy Official boots of ACDC shows..
But wait here, we are talking about something that even though it comes from a website like Reuters, cites "unnamed sources." That means someone could be talking out their ass and taking us for a ride.
God I hope so... but generally those "exclusivity" type of sales deals you don't see too many rumors for. I am just hoping they do the online pre-sale like Plug-Me-in as well
Well just found the story on Yahoo as well. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080610/en_nm/ac_dc_dc_1
For what it's worth, every story posted on this site that has a source is linked to that source. If you click on the Source of the news item (normally Blabbermouth), that will take you directly to the site I got it from. This store specific sales idea has already happened with AC/DC in regards to the Bonus cd that was released for Plug Me In. Best Buy had one version, Wal-Mart had another with different songs, packaged with the 2 disc version. I find it odd & restricting that an entire album will be tied to a single store, but I guess that's how it goes. As long as it comes out, I have no issues with it. It'll end up on eBay and/or Amazon before long.
Ok, first of all a personal disection of the "report" (I put it in quotes because it's a little more than a paragraph) 1st: The album, according to ACDC.com, the band's official site, is to be released "later this year." Fall 2008 is "later this year." So I'll give them a little bit of credit there. 2nd: According to the stub, the Wall Street Journal (ok, immediate business credentials there, seeing as it's not a local paper or anything) cited "unnamed sources." The unnamed part immediately nullifies the credibility of the article in my opinion. I'll personally wait for an official press release from either the band, the label(s) (they are still an Alberts act, right?), or someone related to the band, or even Wal-Mart if this is true.
I was hearing it on the radio today as well... all about AC\DC new album... exclusive to Wal-Mart like Eagles and Garth Brooks last venture...
I was thinking after reading the news post: Evaluating AC/DC's deal with Wal-Mart and realized, maybe it isn't as crazy as people think. What type of store do most people in America frequent? A department store. Which dept. store is the most frequented? Wal-Mart due to its prices. Also, I have got to comment, if AC/DC released the album to every store, they wouldn't be getting sales at the local K-Mart. They pulled CDs off the shelves here. Also, with the recent closing of (many, if not all) Tower Records stores, that takes a huge possibility of sales out right there. Also, Wal-Mart tends to have a history of selling their CDs at prices slightly below places like F.Y.E. (sometimes a new CD starts out at $9.72). But yeah, The Eagles (who, in my opinion had a good album, but not a great one) sold over 3 million copies and kept Britney Spears off the number one slot. Guess where the album was sold? Wal-Mart. Also, I think Wal-Mart was only one of, if not the only major retailer to carry "Totally Baked." Maybe they'll release it in a similar manner to Journey's new album. Have it exclusive at Wal-Mart in the States and a well known European record store. Sapator, does the name Frontier Records sound familiar?
I am just against "Exclusive". What is to say the album WOULDN'T be sold in Wal-Mart if it wasn't an exclusive... i.e.. it sounds to me like Wal-mart sells CDs regardless, has carried AC/DC in the past, so this is not like it is opening up a new venue to the band that has previously not existed. Many people are aware of what a s%&t company Wal-Mart is. I have only stepped foot in the store once, and I have NEVER bought anything. Won't either. So for AC/DC, maybe I am buy used off of eBay or being a bad guy and just going to download it somewhere. I cannot purchase from Wal-Mart because I understand the harmful effects the company has on the American economy as well as the employment market place.
About the extent of stuff I buy from Wal-Mart is CDs. I can't afford a record store's prices, and like I said, the K-Mart that is down the road from our Wal-Mart no longer has CDs. Target is just too far for a regular trip as well. I have bought clothes from Wal-Mart, but as for anything like furniture...there's a reason why Big Lots and thrift stores exist. Sure, once I'm settled down I'll start to get brand new, but right now, I'm just out of high school. I've got to get a job (def. NOT at Wal-Mart or K-Mart. I've heard BOTH places are hell. Maybe at Krystal.) and eventually move out. That's where needing furniture and stuff at low prices would come in handy. But I am sure that Sony would not shoot themselves in the foot and not sell the album on the AC/DC online store. But to get you to go into Wal-Mart, how much do you bet that they'll have a bonus DVD or download?
