but when you buy a dvd burner, cd burner, external/internal hard drive, etc. it will say "1000 bytes=1 KB, 1000KB=1 MB, 1000MB= 1GB" but its actually 1024 instead of 1000 for bytes, KB, and MB, correct?

That's true. That's why alot of people are surprised when they bring home their 120GB hard drive, and find out there's only 111GB of free space. Most people don't know the difference between manufacturer calculated space, and ACTUAL calculated space.

um you forgot to mention why it's 111GB of free space. You do actually get 120 gigs free hdd space, it's just when you partition the hard drive with the system files, it uses up a few gigs. You can change your partition space to get more hdd space but yeah that's how it's done. It's got nothing to do with manufacturer space and actual space if you're comparing the two.
