RNR Train - My verdict
Well, yesterday I gave the song 8/10. Now itīs getting close to hitting a perfect 10. First off, Brian sounds his age, and thatīs in my opinion really really awesome. Lots of power, nerve, and integrity. The man knows what he is doing. The Young brothers deliver a striking, killing and classic AC/DC riff that like any other great AC/DC song just grabs you by the balls. Instantly classic and powerful. The part where Angus starts his solo makes my hair stand up. AWESOME. Cliffs trademark down to the bone bassline just tears it up at all the right places. And Phils maybe more than simplistic drums just nails it all into place. So all in all my verdict is: AC/DC are BACK.....with a vengeance. All Hail AC/DC
Btw, I would like to hear other members verdicts aswell.
9/10 I've heard better drumming from Phil, but the others are great. Brian - sounds better than the Totally Baked songs Angus - sounds great on guitar Malcolm - keeping on keeping on Cliff - steady like a, well, like a train Phil - simplistic, but fits in nicely
Is it just me or is Brians voice low in the mix. It might be the recording I have too or even my computer
I'm with you, fuse. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. I don't think it will hit a ten on my scale, but I think 8.5 or even 9 isn't out of the question. As for Phil's drumming, I think it's exactly what you expect - really solid (I agree that it's pretty simplistic). It's WAY better than the Simon Wright years, and, well, I'd be a little concerned if Phil suddenly busted out like Neil Peart. I LOVE that open high hat. Classic AC/DC. I agree with wesley's post elsewhere about the chorus and the kickass background vocals. That's what sells me the most on this song. Props to the producer and engineer. The sound came out awesome, and to me the mixing is spot on. I think they said that they were trying to get back to a Back in Black sound, but in my opinion they only made it as far back as The Razor's Edge, but I've got no problem with that. Hope the rest of the album is this good!
Agreed erudite. I think Phils drumwork for DC is nothing short of excellent. He is the only drummer I know that can get so much groove, timing and rhythm out of playing so simple drums. I mean in RNR Train there is not a single drumfill, and I love it. Phil Rudd is simply the king of Rock Nī Roll drumming
I can give it a 9 compared to everything it's out there now and a 6.5 for an AC/DC song.
i think it's really good that brian is just singing his heart out and letting everyone hear his voice as it is at his age, and i'm glad that he hasn't done what so many aging rock stars have done, which is try to sound 20 years younger and end up sounding like an 80 year old with a speech problem.. and the young brothers are the same as they always have been - fucking fantastic.. regarding drummers, i would rate phil as one of the best drummers i have ever heard. Sure, he ain't the fastest and dosen't do double-kick drum solos faster than the speed of sound hanging upside down, strapped into a car seat like Joey Jordison from Slipknot does, but when you see him on stage, during the massive LTBR instrumental break, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, pounding out rock solid railroad timing, it just kicks everyone in the guts.. in short, the boys are back, and the money in my wallet will soon be replaced by a ticket.. YES! FOR THE FIRST TIME, MUM ACTUALLY AGREED TO LET ME GO SEE THEM LIVE, WOO-HOO! I'll film it for you guys and post it when it happens.. halleluyah! halleluyah! halleluyah! halleluyah! YAY! (whew) time for a coffee..
