Thoughts on Black Ice...
Listened to the album a few times on VH1's The Leak. Still need to soak in the album a little more before having a definite opinion. Some early thoughts: The song I haven't heard any love for so far which I think is a really good song is Money Made. It's a really catchy song, and Angus & Malcolm really create a groovy guitar interlude on this track. Fav. tracks so far: Big Jack, Anything Goes, Stormy Day May, Money Made. If there is a criticism which comes to mind, it's the lack of up tempo songs, there are 15 tracks after all! I guess Wheels is the fastest song and it is not exactly blazing. Even on the more recent albums we've gotton songs like Give It Up, Ballbreaker, Rock Your Heart Out, etc.. By the way, when you listen to Wheels does anyone else think it is a hybrid of Cinderella's Gyspy Road & Given A Dog A Bone? The production sounds good on this album as does Brian's voice (not as Donald Duck sounding like on the last two albums). P.S. please, please, please bring back Who Made Who onto the setlist for the tour!
I have heard 4 other songs from the cd besides RNRTrain and War Machine.Anything Goes sounds just like John Fogerty from his Revival cd last year and sounds great.RNR Dream is another one I cant get out of my head.Im glad their back and cant wait too see them DEC.18th.
I think one of the more underrated tracks is the title track, black ice. I'm listening to it right now and I just dig the intensity of it.
Listened to the album a few times now, and granted it will never be their best album, but it still rocks, as do the band. Rock n Roll Train, Big Jack and Black Ice especially.
