back from the St Paul show
Just a quick note with more to follow. Crashing at my brother's after the St Paul show, will make the 3 hr drive back up to Fargo in the morning. about the show: just amazing. had great seats (10th row floor, cliff's side). no surprises, although the new Rosie made an appearance. she must have gotten her hole plugged (pun intended). Same set list, crowd was pretty good aside from the 50+ yr old couple in front of my brother. not sure why they were there, but oh well. met a number of official fan clubbers and a few from the site as well. if you saw a really tall guy in a red jacket and white 'i am riff raff' t shirt, that was me. brian johnson is the man. had the crowd into the show from the start. voice sounded a bit tired during some parts of the first couple songs, but sounded great about half way through. angus is still on top of his game. maybe a step slower in running around the stage, but he makes up for it with his playing. huge crowd pops for rock n roll train, hell ain't a bad place to be, thunderstruck back in black, rosie, the usuals kind of indifferent for the new stuff, but anything goes was pretty lively. war machine sounds bad ass live. that's all i can think of at the moment. i'll have a full review within the next few days once my hearing comes back.
no,we want that report now damn it,LOL!! so,did you record the show with the settings i told you to try on the h2?
Nice! sound like it was a good show. Thanks Nate for the review, part 1. Looking forward to the rest of the review and maybe the live recording. :-)
Nate... Why you gotta be such a tease?? LOL!! Hey drop me a line and fill me in on your recording gear and settings. I may be getting a new set of mics for the nest go-round.
I just wrote a hour long review of the concert and it didn't post on the site.
I went to the concert in St. Paul with my friends To-mas and Brian. It was my 13th AC DC concert. The sound was good, and it was really fun to watch. Thank you AC DC, and thank you to all the fans that were in attendance. We had fun! However, it could have been better. About 2,000 fans could not see the Video screens during the concert. There is an overhanging ceiling that blocks about six rows in the lower stands from seeing the screens. This needs to change; AC DC could place screens in the back of the auditorium or on the sides. Something needs to be done for the next show in St. Paul. After Whole Lotta Rosie we could finally see the screens. Think about it, 10% of the concert goers couldn't see the cartoon video. Malcolm was my favorite performer on stage in St. Paul; he is so small. In fact, he might be smaller than Angus. I played a Gibson SG the night before the concert and it look small when I held it. Yet, the Gibson SG looks big when Angus holds it; he is small, but he is very talented. Angus, you rock, no Question! Cliff was strong, steady, and pretty perfect in St. Paul. Go Cliff! Phil Broke Minnesota Law, and he will be getting a ticket! What bad ass thing did Phil do? He smoked cigs during the concert, which is ileagal in Minnesota. If the fans couldn't do it, why can he. Phil, you are my favorite member of AC DC. I love you like a brother, yet you broke the law. Unfortunately, the fine can be as high as $4,000; you had better get a lawyer. Cigs are legal in Performing Arts in Minnesota, but it might be hard to prove. Rock 'N' Roll Train sound really good in concert; it is a great song. Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be sounded great in St. Paul; we thought that it one of the best songs in St. Paul. Back in Black is a classic air guitaring song. Big Jack is not my favorite song; in fact, I sing "Big Nate" instead of "Big Jack" during this song. I like the song more after this concert. I am glad that they played Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap) because it is my friend Brian's favorite CD, and it shut him up. Thunderstruck didn't sound as good as it normally does. My friend Brian said that it didn't sound as good as the DVD's that we watched the day before. Black Ice sucks! My friend To-mas likes it. I will admit that it sounds OK! But, we could have heard Sin City instead of this song. The Jack is by far the most tired song of the set. A few tours ago I began to go take a piss during this song, and now it has become a tradition. Wow, now everyone does it; there had to be a thousand people out there. A group of two hundred fans were chanting "The Jack Sucks". Then, they started chanting "We want Madonna" instead of the Jack. Hells Bells sounds great in concert; It is a concert goers dream song. Unfortunately, Brian's foot didn't fit into the loop on the bells rope, so he had to abandon the swing at the start of the song. I had to stop air guitaing during Shoot to Thrill because it was my turn to video tape the concert; I was pretty steady, and my songs came out good. Not bad for being so drunk! War Machine is awesome in concert; we thought that it was the best song of the show. Anything Goes is my favorite song on the CD because it sounds different. My friends don't like it. You Shook Me all Night Long brought me back to air guitaring. This song is fun. TNT is great; Angus sings! Go Angus Go! Whole Lotta Rosie is perfect, and wow, Rosie! Your breasts are bigger and you seemed to slim down, Fabulous look lady! Angus is Let There Be Rock; he was in good form in St. Paul. He had to kick something out of his way during his solo, but he did it with ease while still playing. Phil left his drums for a break during Angus' solo. Before I get to the ENCORE, there are a few other things that I want to mention. First, Angus' hat stayed on for quite a few songs instead of falling right off like normal. Second, we could see behind the stage during the concert, and they started building the cannons during Whole Lotta Rosie. It takes two people to carry the projectile cylinder to the wheels. Finally, there are two roadies under the stage on either side of Cliff and Malcolm. Cliff was mouthing to his guys during a couple of songs. Highway to Hell is a great song, and For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) is classic. The cannons shoot 1 (Left)-3 (Right)-2 (Middle)- and 1-3-2. The force sends them back with each shot. After the second firing, they are set back in their original position for the final firings. Well, we get to do it again in January. Nate did you notice that the t-shirts said Minneapolis instead on St. Paul.
If you banned Phil from smoking the show would only be 4 songs long. I agree about the usage of the big screens. A lot of times they wouldn't even use the center screen which I recall being bigger than the side screens. It would have helped me. I was in the center but all the way up in the rafters.
Hi fellow DC fanz! we finally lost our AC/DC tinnituss too! They fricken blew the roof off! I kept yellin' "flick of the switch" between songs, but to no avail, sorry! But it was worth the 40 bones for the member seating arrangements. We were row 20 seats 1-2 stage left, and i got 2 reach out and give Brian a 3 second handshek (as he would call it) lol... during Thunderstruck!!! I managed to take 120 pics but was TOLD by the OVERDUE SECURITY to take stills only so... SHIT! I managed to get a couple songs on vid though :( Well, we finally got to meet up with Nate, we walked and talked from Alary's bar all the way to Gate #1, for the "paperless" society lol. This show was the first time i had evr took the opp to go and see em, but mind you!, i have been HOOKED on DC heavier than i can possibly put into words since i first bought BACK IN BLACK in 1980, from one of those probably defunct record clubs LOL! Anyhoo, onward FARGO in Jan!!!! see ya! Brad.
It's great to read from Downunder that the US shows are all sell outs and are being received well by the fans. I'm certainly looking forward to them eventually reaching Australia, my bet is in Oct/Nov 2009. Hopefully some dates announced soon.
