Tell me again why I should buy this? RnR Train video + the "Making of" + a bunch of useless crap neither I nor anyone else needs? Tell me again why record companies are going bankrupt? I think it has less to do with the Internet and more to do with fans sick to death of being fucked by Sony, Virgin, Universal, et al. Let's do the math: 3 editions of Black Ice with 3 different "collector" covers, but no different or additional content. 1 "deluxe" version with - ooooohhh - hardcover picture book to flip through and some lyric sheets. Oh, and no different or additional content. 1 "collector" metal box with a DVD of a video we can view any day of the week + a "making of" that same PROMOTIONAL video + a bunch of useless shit nobody has ever needed which contributes absolutely NOTHING to a fan's appreciation of AC/DC's MUSICAL GENIUS. Please excuse me while I cream my jeans. Has anybody ever seen "Enough", that Jennifer Lopez movie where her husband repeatedly rapes, beats and cheats on her and tells her she should be grateful to even have him in her life? I imagine most fans of music (not fans of PLASTIC, fans of STUFF, fans of MARKETING GIMMICKS THAT REALLY SHOULD GO FUCK THEMSELVES) feel quite a bit like J Lo in that movie right now. I imagine the only thing keeping AC/DC fans from going ballistic and firebombing Sony right now is all the goodwill AC/DC themselves have built up through their damn good music and general overall nice guy personalities. AC/DC are unfortunately in an abusive relationship with Sony whereby Sony basically rides them for all the bankable goodwill they have developed over the last 30 years and rapes fans with shoddily produced and condescendingly marketed material (a la Plug Me In) and redundant releases (the 900 useless versions of Black Ice announced in the last 3 months). The only good thing Sony has ever done for AC/DC was to remaster their back catalog to sound fucking awesome. Once they hooked the boys with that, it was ass-rape time. Brian Johnson said that he's worried iTunes will kill music. Music is fine as long as there's someone out there who can whistle a simple melody which makes people smile. Neither the existence of iTunes or record companies are necessary to the survival of music. Whoever fed him that kool-aid he was repeating was really saying 'iTunes has the potential to kill the desire of billions of people around the world buying useless fucking plastic in variations of packaging options at a price point of about 1000% profit for us poor, suffering record companies.' Again, this rant is not about digital vs CD or iTunes vs Sony. This is a rant about being sold a load of crap by greedy, condescending assholes who care nothing for the music or the artist, but only filling their own profits. Because as they say in New York City, "Blow and whores aren't cheap, you know!" and "This boat ain't going to pay for itself!"

I'm one of those suckers that eats this stuff up. Do I need to have 7 copies of Black Ice? Nope. But I'll probably end up getting them all the same. Just the way I am. FWIW, this French box is a bit different than the Norwegian one viewable here: http://www.ginza.se/index.aspx?artnr=16417 There is also a crate version that comes with a t-shirt from Canada: Black Ice Crate both links courtesy of ac-dc.net
Hey Nate: I used to buy up all that stuff - CD singles, posters, flags, bootleg CDs, anything I could get my hands on - but I'm past that point and am now interested in one thing and one thing only - the music. The internet is great because it allows me to focus on what I really love, which is the riffage and wit (well, in the Bon days, anyways) of the band. The rise of the net and computers which can play music, not to mention the development of flash drives, huge hard drives and mp3 players have rendered CDs irrelevant. This in itself is not a bad thing, but the standard record company reaction to it is. The internet exposed the record companies for the liars and thieves they are. The bullshit multiple copies of Black Ice which do not offer anything special (I saw the "crate Black Ice w T shirt" up here in Canada, considered buying it, then thought "WTF am I going to do with an AC/DC t-shirt? I don't wear that stuff anymore" and decided to purchase the un-deluxe version of the disc) are more than enough proof of that, beside the fact that AC/DC themselves are probably really only receiving a maximum of 9-10% of the 15 bucks I'd plop down at a record store for a CD. I'd rather meet up with Angus and Brian and give them 10 bucks personally than hand it to a record company which is going to keep most of the profits for themselves and their marketing department while executive bigwigs snort cocaine off the asses of whores on their yachts and laugh about what a bunch of suckers we all are. That is all I'm saying, all I've ever been saying. If a super-special-mega-deluxe version works for you alongside the other 97 versions of Black Ice on offer for you to purchase, I won't hold it against you. It is a free world, after all...
Ok. The point is that...Well you're right.I'll overlook the stuff you said about me and the mania of the "album band" that really get's on my nerves and i'll say:you're right about this. As an AC/DC heavy cd-dvd collector that finds mostly RARE stuff, i can tell you what is worth buying except from ONE(1,uno,ena,Un) copy of the cd......The japanize promo cd of black ice, a double promo cd-cd japanize press version in a DVD case that you won't probably find anywhere or if you do you will have to pay 300$ to get it. (i got it for 90$ :) ) and also a rnr train promo, the one with no pictures, just a sticker.I WILL NOT get the box, WILL not get the crate,WILL NOT get the red, green, pink, orange, black, white cd versions because i consider it a RIP-OFF... And on the other hand i'm still happy that i will see the greatest band in the world live, even if they play the same stuff, even if they fucked up back in black and even if they do Anything goes, the worst AC/DC song ever, a copy of get it hot. The cd,cd,cd,cd,cd,box, crate, mambo jumbo stuff on the other hand....What a rip off. FUCK SONY!
Expected release in cheeseland on december 1st but I am told there is a delay and I would be informed in due course!
actually I received a message that's available and I went to get it. I confirm the contents as per Ericduvet message above but I doubt it's limited to 100K worldwide. There were around 100+ boxes just in the shop I got it from!
It kind of reminds me the Metallica$h limited edition St Anger cd. More copies than the original cd :)
You guys are right! But... but here in Russia we're living like a faraway islanders with no connection to the world. We often not able to use amazon/ebay facilities as they don't wanna to ship stuff to Russia. So what for I said that -- I've bought this metal box for myself additionally to the deluxe version of the cd and Am happy I can add some stuff to my collection. that's all. Most of us here are kind of this sony marketing eaters. But as for me... sony's opportunities to buy all version of Black Ice (red, yellow, green etc) are screwed up. Am not a maniac.
