vhs question?
is there a cable or anything that anybody can recommend thats relatively inexpensive to connect a vcr to a computer? where the data being played from the vcr can be recorded onto the computer?
From what I've found, you'll need to buy a new card to put into your computer, or a box that will convert it for you. Unfortunately, the less you pay for it, the less quality you'll get in the end result. I've found one for about $200 that should be pretty good and get the job done. Nate
ah alright thanks Nate. so theres no way of hooking up the vcr to my computer and doing somethign like that?
Not directly that I know of, unless your computer already has inputs for the audio & video built in. If there's something you need copied, let me know and I have some connections that copy a bunch of stuff for myself. PM or IM me if you're interested and when you have time. Nate
masterx449, I have my vcr and dvd player run right into my computer and make concerts all the time. I make mp3 files from it and burn it to disc. If you want to start sending me copies of DVD or VHS boots, I can make you the audio bootleg version. What do you think? This process takes a lot of time since I would have to record each track as a file OR you can create 1 huge file. I know most people despise mp3's but I would rather have a concert broken up into different tracks so I can easily go to whatever song I want to hear (lossy). mp3s don't bother me. Hope this info. helps. Scotty from Detroit
scotty just to clarify i dont wanna get audio from the vhs; i want to convert vhs to dvd. rhece6 thats probably what i would need. my computer does have audio/video inputs btw tahnks for all the help guys!
no probs I just searched it on ebay you can find anything on there
You get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00028CAL2/104-8552782-2922345?v=glance called a capture card, plugs into the USB port, it has video ports like a TV on it, plug the VCR into it, run the program on yer computer, click capture, click play on the VCR, Walla!
yeah BigNate was right though you would need a good video card into the cpu
Goodday all You could also get a standalone dvdrecorder ,hook up the vcr rec. onto dvd and then edit it with Ulead studio 9 or Pinnacle studio or Cyberlink powerdirector maybe this will be a cheaper solution . I myself use Ulead it's very easy
You do not want to use USB port though. Its not good enough to handle the work load. Direct RCA gold jacks into a converter into computer. Or In a Display card that has Video Input. Like a midi cable or coaxel hook up. USB just doesnt cut it in my book. USB is fading out slowly. And you want something that has overburn protection as well. Like a firewire or something. If you dont have the buffer protection, could result in poor sound and picture quality and errors.
Is it better to convert to VHS to computer then to DVD or straight from VHS to DVD?
I suppose if you want menus then to convert it to computer first then
quality wise. If I went straight from VHS to DVD, I could rip it to my computer and create menus and such.
but then you would have to re-born it too dvd and so you would end up loosing qality anyway
Not especially, rhece. For one thing, he could use an -RW, so he wouldn't end up using the one disc for final burning. As for quality loss, since he would most likely be using a single layer anyways, there would be no quality loss if he were to add a menu; minor loss maybe, if he had to compress it slightly to fit the menu(s).
So there would be quality loss if I used a double layer? (which I don't plan on doing)
