I.S.O. holy grail of ac/dc
posting this as a general question to the knowledgable patrons of this site,i hope i'm posting this in the appropriate area as i'm new to the site. anyway,i've been hearing about an ac/dc recording that may or may not exist and i wanted to see if anyone knows if this is out there somewhere. it has long been rumored among people i have known that somewhere out there, there is a version of BACK IN BLACK with bon scott singing all the songs. as the band was in the process of recording this album when he died (right?) it would make sense that there could be recordings somewhere with his vocal tracks. anyone?????????
If there is such a version of Back In Black (or more accurately, the Bon Scott era AC/DC follow up to "Highway To Hell", as Back In Black was a tribute to Bon) it'd be locked up in the vaults, and probably never spoke of. It is said that Bon had 15 songs for the new album, but none were used cause they didn't feel it'd be proper for them to cash in on the novelty. With that being said, there is the infamous Joe Lynn Turner version of Back In Black that is commonly mislabeled on P2P networks as a "rare Bon Scott version".
Aw scotty, does that mean that "elusive" re-recording of the Powerage album with Brian dont exist either? Bugger!! and I been looking for it for ages too! As for being in the process of recording, look at the tour schedule and promo appearences for H2H and ask yerself, where exactly did/would they get the time? bottom line, the rumours to put it bluntly are BOLLOCKS!!
cool ,well thanx for the info/detailed account of that time period.that does shed some new light on the subject. however, to count it out based solely on that principle doesn't make sense to me either. when you think about it, it can take as short as like a couple of hours to track some vocals especially if it's just first takes/scratch tracks or whatever you want to call it. or,perhaps these were pre-production demo's the band had recorded themselves as preparation for the new album. and i am only speculating considering that i don't really have enough evidence one way or the other. my general take on it has been similar to yours that it is probably a big no or we would have heard about it being around by now. i still don't see any confirmation for sure that it doesn't exist.thanx for the opinions.
I think I remember hearing in some random interview with some music historian that they were in the basic pre-production, and Bon had layed down the basic drum track to Have A Drink On Me. It's of course hearsay at best, and I doubt even if it's true, that the tape will ever make it out of the vaults. And again...hearsay/rumour, at best.
