AC/DC's Most Underrated
Some of you may know this but Powerage, Flick of the Switch, Fly on the Wall and Blow Up Your Video are AC/DC's most underrated albums. I am confused in why this happened. All these albums have pretty good songs, especially Powerage and Blow Up Your Video. Flick of the Switch and Fly on the Wall also have pretty good tunes on them too. I hope somebody can explain all this to me, I don't have a clue.
Powerage was a bit of a deviation in form for them at the time, and thus even to this day is a tad underrated, but not from people who actually enjoy the band and not just the singles. Flick and Fly were deviations from the production values of the past albums (H2H, Back in Black and FTATR) and were more raw sounding, which the public didn't seem to like. Again, anyone who enjoys their music, enjoyed these albums. Maybe not as a whole, but there was a handfull of good songs on each. Blow Up Your Video had 2 good songs. The rest are only good enough to remind you why it's such a bad album. Too much reverb, and not enough focus on the music, I feel. It reached number 12, but I think that had more to do with the failures of the past 2 albums and the singles, and not so much the album as a whole. And let's not forget, it's the album that made the Young brothers decide to take over lyric duties on subsequent albums. I think the song 'Ruff Stuff' gives you a good idea as to why they did that. I love AC/DC, but Blow Up Your Video only has a spot in my collection in that it fills that space between Who Made Who and The Razors Edge.
Righty Ho! Do you like 'em? If so, who cares what the sales figures/critics indicate remember everyone is a critic, if it dont sell in the multi millions ,they could have done better, blah blah blah bollox to that, again if you like it,who gives a monkeys what others think
OH AYE I NEARLY FORGOT MY OLD GRANDFATHER USETA SAY........... "IT WOULD BE A FUNNY OLD WORLD IF WE ALL LIKED THE SAME THING" WISE WORDS
i don't care if those albums were underrated or not. they rock no matter what.
They really do rock. In fact, my favourite AC/DC album is Fly On The Wall with Flick just behind. Some people will probably call me crazy, but in no one am I saying that they are AC/DC's best albums. Obviously Back In Black is the best, but I just like the lesser known ones better.
I like all these albums, Powerage, Flick, Fly and Blow Up Your Video. Hey BrianJohnson888, I know that Blow Up Your Video has a lot of filler but I like the guitar riffs and solos like on Kissin' Dynamite and Nick of Time.
I think all AC/DC albums are awesome. I have every AC/DC song ever recorded on my ipod, and guess what I'm only 14! So it is unlucky that I wasn't alive to go see the tour earlier tours. Black Ice is the only tour I've been on. However I agree that those albums deserve more credit, and it would be nice if we could hear songs off of those albums be played live. But thats the way it goes, playing in a band (It's a long way to the top) if song arn't classics the arn't played live.
BUYV was an excellent album, and I would expect better from a guy named BrianJohnsonFan888. I've never met an AC/DC song I hated. My least favorite is Rock 'N Roll Train however. My favorite alternates, but right now I'd say Guns For Hire tied with The Honey Roll.
I hear ya suicidehammer, I've never run into an AC/DC I've hated. They write really good music, BUYV has a great sound and the structure of the songs are cool too.
See, I'm of the belief that one can be a huge fan of a band, and not have to absolutely love everything said band has done. So yeah, criticize me if you want, but I gave my reasons for my opinion, and no matter how you slice it, BUYV is full of filler tracks, and even the band is willing to admit when an album is a stinker.
Brianjohnson888 gotta agree withyou bud, whilst most DC tracks are still head n shoulders above the rest of the current crop (in the 80's,90's.or the 00's for that matter), we still gotta admit there are some clangers in the back catalogue, (my personal bugbears are R'nR train & Mistress For Christmas), however this is purely my opinion, which is like a bellybutton i.e. everyone has one). My point however is that, much like the classic R'n'R of Chuck Berry,Little Richard et al, these tunes stand up musically if not lyrically, bottom line, they aint as cerebral(or street poetry if you prefer),Aint No Fun or Its A Long Way, but as 4 minute R'n'R slices of escapism they do their job!
Yeah, but compared to pretty much all popular music today, every AC/DC album (and song) just kicks the crap out of them. I have yet to hear an AC/DC song that I can not stand. There are some AC/DC songs that I prefer less than others, but I still like them.
I agree that Mistress for xmas isn't on of their best. I think the fly on the wall and powerage are their most under rated albums. hands down their in my top 5 officially released albums along with back in black, if you want blood you got it, highway to hell....
Maybe BUYV wouldn't have such a bad rap if the album didn't sound like it was recorded in a high school gymnasium. The production sound is just awful. Always thought This Means War was a pretty solid song off of BUYV.
