Phil Rudd
I noticed this that every show since phil rudd rejoined the band back in 96 every song except thunderstruck he is the orignal drummer on the songs I know that in greensboro 96 they did who made who with him are there any other songs they played with him that he is not the orignal drummer on?
it was rumored Big Gun was rehearsed for the Ballbreaker tour so maybe that counts
from what ive HEARD he feels uncomfortable doing those tracks, though i think thats kinda selfish on his part (if its true of course)
It's not as though Who Made Who is that complicated on the drums. I will certainly be disappointed with Phil if I find out that he is the reason that we haven't heard it since Greensboro. In addition to the above songs, to my knowledge Phil was not the original drummer for Baby Please Don't Go which they used to play quite a bit in the early days and also She's got Balls which has been played live as recently as '86.
I always thought Phil not playing anything aside from a couple songs from albums he didn't record on was due to either: 1) Phil is stubborn and just doesn't want to play songs he didn't record or 2) His drum kit is set up differently from Chris or Simon's kits. It's obviously different from the one Chris used, but I don't remember seeing Simon's up close in any pictures or video. Just what I've always thought were the reasons. Who knows what the real reason is.
Phil has actually played Who Made Who (at least once) on the Ballbreaker tour. However, it's a shame he doesn't play anything else from the mid 80s and early 90s. I'd love to hear something like Guns For Hire or Heatseeker again.
I think we will have to give either Phil or the Youngs a ring, to get the real reason.
Seriously, play something from the non-Phil era. I would like to here these again. This House is on Fire Flick of the Switch Bedlam in Belgium Fly on the Wall Shake Your Foundations Sink the Pink Who Made Who Heatseeker That's the Way I Wanna Rock N Roll
@Booth, The 3 FOTS tracks you mentioned are Phil. He just quit before the tour started and was replaced by Simon Wright.
Phil is an interesting guy. He seems to have a different attitude from the rest of the boys, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it was Phil's doing. Of course, maybe Malcolm, having been cited as the setlist decider, is nervous as to what Phil's reaction would be if he threw in some Simon or Chris era tracks. Phil has been described as an abrasive guy, so maybe Mal is just "walking on eggshells" around Phil. Another possibility is that he's too nervous that people won't like his drumming as well as Chris or Simon's on the original track. Or he thinks we'll scrutinize his every mistake on those tracks and he'll look bad. At any rate, I don't see any Chris or Simon era tracks coming back, as much as we'd all love to see that. I do know my second question to Angus (if I ever meet him) would be, "Could you guys play some more rare tracks, as well as some FOTW and FOTS ones?" My first would be, "Did you guys ever play Danger live?" Ruddisgod667: I highly doubt that. Is there any way you could trace where that rumor came from?
well my tuppence worth is this, Phil is a drummer,he does what hes told, every band claims to be a democracy however you tend to find the "democracy" is run by 1,maybe 2 people, and in AC/DC's case that 1 /2 people would be the Young Bros., I'd bet a years salary that the setlist would be discussed, tailored to fit Brians vocal ability now,and ultimately the decision would be the bands "guvnor", Malcolm,possibly/probably with some conferral with Angus, My opinion, its the Youngs baby and with the best will in the world,THEY run the show
suicidehummer: better late than never i guess, lol. but if you haven't found it yet it was in Maximum Rock N Roll.
