Who is your favourite AC/DC drummer and why? Mine is Simon Wright. I really like his big, booming sound; it really gave AC/DC an extra edge back in the 80s. He also added some more variation in the beats and fills, while still keeping it simple. However, Slade and Rudd are still awesome. Slade had tons of technical talent and Rudd is a beat keeping machine.

Favorite Drummer for AC/DC or just in general? If you are talking about who has the most technical skill, Neil Peart from Rush. But, of course my favorite drummer of all time is Phillip Hugh Norman Witschke Rudzevecuis.

Phillip Hugh Norman Witschke Rudzevecuis. I now figured out why he looks too serious when you come across him. :-)

Phil. He knows just how much to open up that hi-hat. I think that Simon closed the hi-hat too much and it didn't sound as much like the old AC/DC. I do love that big dopey grin that Slade always has. Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden is a pretty amazing drummer. My favorite all time has to be John Bonham. He's the only drummer that I've heard that actually draws my attention away from guitars and vocals. The guy was incredible.

easily Phil. Slade wasnt bad at all, although he did play a bit fast. I really cant say i liked Simon Wright too much, IMO he really hurt AC/DCs sound.

@erudite: While Simon is my favourite drummer, I have to agree with you. His hi-hat didn't have the same groove as Phil. Personally, I think the best drummer of all time is John Bonham of Led Zeppelin.

I like Phil Rudd, he's a great time keeper, he has help AC/DC create that sound we all know and love. Just glad came back when he did.

Keith Moon of The Who and AC/DC Phil Rudd hands down. If you want excitement in your drums, you'll watch Chris Slade. If you need a cover band drummer, Simon Wright. But Phil just knows how to keep a beat

I've never drummed, so couldn't really compare the technical aspects of the various drummers over the years. Chris Slade was probably my favourie AC/DC drummer, purely for the excitement he used to put into a live show (just watch the Donington 1991 performance), with that big grin he has on his face. He also seems to hit the drums the hardest out of the lot (but I'm not sure whether that's just how it appears). Compare it to Phil who, especially since rejoining the band in 1995, is only ever shown sitting back without ever showing any emotion at all, always with a cigarette in his mouth, and it seems he just plays a very reliable beat but doesn't seem to hit that hard - almost appearing to lack energy. That's not so much a criticism, more of an observation. Phil's records ofcourse speak for themselves, and he drummed for the band during their 1975-1981 era which was arguably their best (and contains their most famous hits). The best of all time would definitely be John Henry Bonham followed by Keith Moon. Even Phil would probably agree with this.

Phill, he can smoke his cigarette with style(nightrain) and play like no other. The best drummer ever is Rick Allen(def leppard)a one armed drummer is a good drummer. He can play as good if not better than phill, and that's with one arm.

Not a Drummer. Cris Slade is my favorite but Phill will always be the right drummer for AC/DC.
