Givin' or Given
The spelling of Givin' the Dog a Bone has been thrown around a lot on presses of Back in Black and I want to know, how is it spelled. On my 2003 reissue of Back in Black it is Givin' and I think it's the same for my 1980 vinyl press. Could someone clear this up with me please, thanks.
haha ive always wondered that too i checked the re-mastered cd cover, dvd dual disc, wiki, and acdc.com and came up with Givin The Dog A Bone but MY LP says Given...hmmmm who knows
I don't remember where I read this, it may have been the booklet from the 2003 remaster, but apparently on early pressings it was spelled "given", but changed on later ones.
I wonder why that is? I checked my 1980 vinyl and it does say Given.
I'll comment for some cd's i have... Well the Aussie re-issue spells "GivinG" All the other euro CD's i have spell"Given" Digital remastered and not. A rare Stiff Upper Lip-Back in Black double cd, The German 1st issue of Back in Black (gold cd) and the French Gold issue spells also given. The dualdisk spells Givin. I cannot make a comment on the new Sony cd's or the japan replica re-issues because i have a few promos of them but not back in black.... What else.. Ah the Promotional Bonfire versions i have (one with back in black cd on the big case labeled promo and the other with the back in black regular disk) spells "Given" I Don't know about the Bonfire original OLD version because i have the Aussie Version Without Back in black included. That's all i can make out.
Probably changed because Given in this context isn't grammatically correct.
if you listen to the song, brian will say "i'm just givin' a dog a bone." so, the title is "givin' a dog a bone."
Myself coming from the same place Brian comes from, people in this area would be more likely to say givin' (becasue of our accents). Perhaps that may help in some way.
thats a good question. Becaus when the chorus starts the first time it sounds like brian said given and then after mal and cliff sings theyr part he says givin.
