Let There Be Rock, Updated Book
Well just finished reading it, wife got it for my birthday, bless her, and I have to admit for allthe hype, I could honestly take it or leave it, it doesnt shed any real new insights into what we already know. I came away feeling that i'd been reading my teenage daughters diary, its a fans( fanatics ?) summing up of events, with a strange preoccupation on Bon n Cliff, fair enough.Quite afew glaring mistakes as well, easily rectifiable in the researching stage I woulda thought. on closing, fair do's to Susan, shes made a living outta her association with the band over the years, but hey nothings perfect, not even AC/DC, a wee bit of critique and less sycophancy would have been welcome. 7/10 from me, Arnauds book is a better bet if you ask me,its NOT a bad book, just not a great book think malcolm dome with tits, same kinda number 1 fan/authority just my opinion people, as i said good luck to her,but im glad the wife paid for it and not me, i wouldnt say its worth the asking price, £7.50 ish would suffice Dave
you should try "AC/DC MAXIMUM ROCK & ROLL" best AC/DC ive ever read, finished it in 2 days, couldnt put it down
Cliff, Dave already mentioned that he read Maximum RnR.......he says that Arnaud's book is better.
no disrespect but ive been around bands and groupies since the late 80's, (mate thought he was a rockstar, but didnt realise sittin on his ass all day smokin weed and suchlike didnt make him a rockstar, made him a DICK!, a pity the guy was/is talented, could play ANYTHING after hearing it once,SCARY!,played a few gigs in Scotland and North of England, couple in London,I got roped into the mixing desk for the coont, done Saxon,Garbage,NapalmDeath,Whitesnake, quireboys,Spider,Quo etc,Monster tour with REM, and last time I worked for them was security in 99, let me tell you for all that save the world shite,Mr Stipe was always definately the worse for wear after his gigs, found a lotta bags of a strange white powder that nipped my nostrils stage right at those gigs! YOU DECIDE. Anyhoo it seems that she was a groupie that didnt put out, earned th ebands respect for that and built a career outta it, listened to the CD that came with the book(got it on my HD somewhere) and for a "journalist" its diabolical,I know Bon was a bugger, but if your there to do a job do it right, dont carry on likea lovesick schoolgirl!!! thank christ Arnaud was objective with his book, a far better read in my opinion Dave
p.s. as an ignorant Jock, I would be loath to call anyone but someone from the Newcastle area a Geordie! Do your research Susan!!! You just try calling any "hard working ,harrd drinking man" anywhere but Newcastle, a Geordie and see how many teeth you end up with!!! YEAH,WE ARE THAT TERRITORIAL!!!!
Idk what your problem was with the book but i liked it. Knowing the band on their first American tour and who the boys were that set up the show sounds like an extra plus. I wouldn't go saying that it's better than Maximum Rock N Roll but its up there.
FAIR DO'S BUD, AS I SAID ITS ONLY MY OPINION, BUT AS I SAID "a wee bit of critique and less sycophancy would have been welcome." 7/10 from me, Arnauds book is a better bet if you ask me,its NOT a bad book, just not a great book" A FAIR ENOUGH REVIEW I THOUGHT, IF YOU LIKE DIARY LIKE BOOKS WHERE, THE AUTHORS OPINIONS ARE AIRED AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY, ON EVERY SUBJECT, GO FOR IT, I PREFER A WEE BIT MORE "MEAT" ON THE BONE MYSELF, THERES ALWAYS UNEARTHED FACTS THAT ADD TO A STORY,AND AS I ALSO SAID GOOD ON SUSAN MAKING A LIVING FROM HER BAND ASSOCIATIONS, DC & OTHERS.
For me there are 2 books that is worth reading. For a closer more sophisticated inside for AC/DC (and especially Bon): Highway to Hell by Clinton Walker For a fun to read book, although i think the writer is a prick: AC/DC The Kerrang files by Malcolm Dome
I flipped through the LTBR book at a Guitar store and I was hooked. I liked the Ballbreaker chapter (my favorite album). Does Maximum rock and roll have much on Ballbreaker?
