Did Malcolm play the falcon at Hockenheim?

I was just going through some recent member submissions to the concert history and came across a picture submitted by OldBrumm that shows Malcolm on the big video screen playing what looks like the old Gretsch White Falcon from the early 80's. Can anyone that was at the show confirm? I'm mostly curious if the sound was different than his normal guitar or if there was any apparent reason for him using it. The pic can be seen here

angus and malcolm seemed to have in hockenheim problems with their guitars. in fact both of them changed guitars many times. but i can't remeber seeing him with that whit one. (maybe because i had a bad place to watch the stage) but in leipzig on may 13, 2009, i also saw this white guitar he had in the 80's. his guitar technik-man (sry for the word, i think you know what i mean;)) tuned it a couple of minutes before the show began. i dont know, if mal played it.

Malcolm definitely used the White Falcon at Hockenheim (i was there) and I noticed it right away. After Shoot To Thrill he changed his guitar again and took the one he uses normally.

That's really cool! I thought I read in "Maximum Rock and Roll" that that guitars sound was messed up and it wasn't didn't sound right after the BIB tour. I personally like to joke with my friends that the white falcon is a "chello" because its so huge. That woudl be awesome to see mal use it in Winnipeg in August, but I love his firebird too much!

That guitar looks like it weighs as much as Malcolm.

Hi Big Nate, yes, Malcolm used the White Falcon during Shoot To Thrill. He changed Guitars just before that song because of technical problems with his Firebird. The photo i made there was from the Videoscreen (Mal have no chorus part during this song so he kept standing in the back) and the guy who's filming for that screen did a good job! He must have known that this was a special thing! There are some good videos on youtube. For example:

Yes, Malcolm did play it, but it's not his old one. The White Falcon he used on BIB and FTATR was sold at a rock memorabilia auction. It's probably a classic model of a similar vintage. They still make White Falcons, but I doubt he would play a new one. I'm sure that the tech takes it out to tune and test before every show. And Erudite, it's a semi-hollow body guitar, so it's actually very light.

Thanks for the confirmation guys. It's good to see a throw-back like that being used, even if it is only for a song or 2. I saw the tech tuning it last November, but it wasn't needed during the show.

its awesome that he played that guitar. but for my show i saw a tech tuning up a different gretsch. it was the same kind as used in the Are You Ready video. so he has quite the arsenal of gretsches

I added a photo from the Hockenheim Gig which shows Mals Guitar-Tec tuning the White Falcon before the Show. I saw him tuning three different Guitars. The Tech tunes the White Falcon in every concert i was this tour, but Mal never used it. Hockenheim was the first time i saw him using it.

I hope he uses the white falcon now more often, even though I still love his firebird
