For the record, despite all of my previous complaints about AC/DC's lack of setlist flexibility and artistry, the show at Scotiabank place rocked balls nonstop! I saw them in 1996 and I don't think they were half as intense as they were this time. If they are going out after this tour, they're going out with a bang. A girl in front of me recorded a good bit of the show on an HD camcorder, so we should be seeing a bunch of songs on YouTube very soon.

Although I agree the live shows are great, the album is only so-so and the setlist sucks as you said. I wouldn't say that's going out with a bang. And besides, as it looks now, Malcolm won't allow anybody to call it quits until he's ready.

No, what I saw was very clearly a bang. The new album might have only a few highlights, but they lost their hunger not long after Bon died anyways. That is the price of success. In that vein of thought, I think those who have already proven themselves should no longer feel obligated to put out full albums anymore, just 2 or 3 good songs every few years whenever they feel like it. What I mean to say by good songs is songs from the gut, rather than out of any obligation to keep a record company in a state of permanent zombie living death boosted by 1000% profit margins. For those missing my reference, do a google on Thom Yorke of Radiohead and what he said this week when they released their latest song over the net (iTunes free, too).

No, they should feel obligated because those fans got them famous and are paying their bills. The least they can do is give us an album every few years. No, I agree about the hunger. I do think, though, that if they tried to understand what made those early albums great, they could recapture it. Ballbreaker reminds me of the early stuff just because it has that raw energy and sound.
