doctoracdc72: Why the original Donnington and No Bull? The only things they changed as far as I can tell for Donnington is they edited out some Brian-isms (oohs and yeahs and some between songs talk) and they dubbed the Fire Your Guns solo. Otherwise, the production is excellent. As for No Bull, the original had the crowd louder than the band and it sounded like a bootleg to be honest. Too much reverb and echo as well. The Director's Cut kicks ass IMO. Not trying to argue, I'm just intrigued by why you would like those original ones. But SUL has awful production. Mal is quiet as a mouse and it's just bad in general.
OLD Donington because of what you've said (cut Brian, edited tracks). No Bull....Mmmm i can't recall which i like better.Do i have the new version? Can remember, wtf?
The dubbed over Brians vocals on Back in Black.. That pissed me off..
They didn't dub BIB vocals. I have seen that idiot on YT who thinks he discovered proof they dubbed it but it's just an example of bad editing. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE DONNINGTON BIB HAS THE ORIGINAL VOCALS. Sap: You really care that much about some between song banter and a "Yeah" during Thunderstruck? The Fire Your Guns solo being dubbed does bother me but on the other hand it is interesting to hear that strange solo. I still wonder where the heck they got that solo from... Anyway if you really want to hear the original recording, play the Fire Your Guns from the Live CD.
Nah i prefer to view it on the telly ;) General rules. You don't mess with a perfect consent to sell it as new. They can go f$ck themselves.
Ehh, I'm pretty much indifferent to the changes, however the Fire Your Guns Solo is an exception.
Actually look at these vids: 2:34 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft-26t1R4ls 2:36 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Hnbd1bgKw The VHS version mutes his "Ooh" so I'm inclined to believe the VHS was actually dubbed...
seems like someone found my uploaded vhs version btw i have the fan shot of donington posted to, but i think there is no strange solo in the donington concert imo
Hey cool thanks for uploading the VHS version! Anyway I was saying the DVD version of Fire Your Guns has a dubbed solo. Being a guitarist, I can tell his fingers are not playing that solo.
Are we counting mutes :) I can't believe you've search to find this detail. And i thought i was the one with the wild life :P Ok but when you make a new DVD of a VHS concert you don't dub anything of cut anything. Imagine Let there be rock VHS on a DVD with cut vocals and dubbed solos. Then the DVD will be better because of the sound and the picture?I highly doubt it. Anyway some prefer the VHS some others don't like some of us prefer the frikin loud "Hey you!" on Hell ain't and not the remastered bullsh%t...
suicidehummer: i enjoyed the originals because they sound raw, and i enjoy raw sound, kinda like flick of the switch or fly on the wall. for the newer versions, i enjoyed those also, but not as much as the originals. for SUL, i enjoyed the performance, but i didn't care about the sound. Patrick_Ronacher: if you were referring to me watching the uploaded donington vhs version on YT, i actually have the donington vhs version on a bootleg dvd. to me, the sound on the vhs version is better than the fucked up remixed version. i don't care about the picture.
personally speaking if i want a "dubbed" and touched up version of a "LIVE" dvd, think ill spend my £££ on Britney,at least shes blatantly screwing the public over, maybe im all wrong, i dont know, but i thought a "live" cd,album, dvd or whatever, was meant to be that, not a sanitised karaoke version, but hey what do i know eh
Wow, I just watched the rest of the VHS versions and I can't believe what I heard. Just about every song was dubbed for the DVD! First of all, I'll start with BIB, as I'm most familiar with this Donnington performance. The VHS version sounds much more real as you guys have said and Brian doesn't give it his all on EVERY line (I'm now hitting myself for not realizing he couldn't have). Also, he misses one of the "bahahahack"s because he's waving at the crowd. I thought the DVD was just badly mixed and made it look like that but he definitely skips that part on the VHS version. I always thought the Donnington BIB performance was so perfect and now I know why. I not only feel cheated but I feel like a shitty fan for not catching this. What a shame really. I can say one good thing though. they did a helluva job dubbing it. Some original vocals are left in, and they work it out pretty seamlessly. BTW, the "Hey you" in both versions of HAABPTB sounds the same to me. Not louder or different in any way.
For "Hell ain't" i meant the CD's,LP's. Anyway the bad thing for me is that you made me wanna see the live on VHS again but my video is broken (both of them) so i have the tape and i cannot view it :(
Patrick uploaded them on YouTube, just search for "acdc donnington VHS"
Well (sorry for this Patrick) the picture sucks big time and the sound too. If i can borrow a VCR from a friend , maybe i can transform them to DVD...
