30 years since Let There Be Rock was filmed
30 years rolled by, and AC/DC still has not put the film out on DVD. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Apparently, from what I heard, something happened to the master tapes. For the CD release that was in Bonfire it even had to be patched up at least once.
Truly tragic as this concert film is mindblowing... Who lets this happen to their master tapes? I hope the Glasgow 1978 film and its attendant audio and visual masters are in better shape. This stuff is just screaming for a proper DVD release. I still don't understand why AC/DC didn't do a full-on 30th Anniversary release of If You Want Blood, featuring the full, uncensored Glasgow 1978 show on 1-2 CDs, packaged together with a remastered DVD of the same show. It's such a no-brainer, I am stunned and perplexed as to why Sony didn't think of it and instead issued the lame-ass scattered, unfocused, shitty Plug Me In box in 2008. I would gladly pay for a proper If You Want Blood release (as described in the previous paragraph), while I still have not found the motivation to purchase Plug Me In in either the 2 DVD or 3 DVD format.
I know, they should release it on DVD, also do a proper DVD Release of the Appollo Theatre show from 78, although I have it on DVD, but it is a bootleg.
from what i remember...the original film wasnt even complete anways. They showed phil driving a car during walk all over you and they didnt even film T.N.T
It was actually Cliff driving a Porsche during Walk All Over You and I'm not sure if it's that they didn't film TNT or that they didn't include it in the film once they cut it together because the filmmakers didn't like the song itself. Either way, it's the best concert film of AC/DC to date and it captures them at a key moment in time - on the verge of exploding in America and just before Bon Scott choked on his own vomit in the backseat of a car.
It was Phil who was driving the car, Cliff was in the plane. Also, for a full version of IYWB culled from master tapes would mean a whole load of remixing for the parts of the songs that came from other shows besides Glasgow, Rosie and the ending of Rocker, which are not from the Apollo. It's a nice wish, but it probably won't ever happen as I doubt they have the film, and knowing the state of affairs with the band, not one person in their clique is capable of dedicating themselves to releasing any complete, 'from the heart' media release with anything more than money in mind. Still, we'll have a nice DVD recorded in some indistinct enormodome, with the same setlist as the last three DVD's to look sideways to. Niiice.
Good thing we have home DVD recorders to just simply convert the VHS to DVD, and maybe remaster the sound ourselves using the audio from Bonfire.
I don't have VHS no more :) both broken. And the DVD of LTBR(bootleg) has average quality. If anyone find a good transfer of LTBR but i mean GOOD TRANSFER the give a hint here.
It really is a joke 30 years later and no official DVD release of this brilliant concert I read there was 12 hours of footage mostly interviews. You would think they take all the material and re-master it and add the new footage I guess they don't want to spend the money and give the fans what we really want. If you go to Pirate bay you will find a re-mastered DVD copy, the guy did an amazing job syncing the audio from Bonfire this was a difficult task I know because I tried it several times and could not do it. With Glasgow 78 I guess someone will need to take the official DVD releases and put them in the correct song order that’s as close as we are going to get to this gem. We will probably never see the missing parts of this video concert. With IYWB I thought the best thing the record company could have done was to add the missing tracks (Dog Eat Dog, Fling Thing and Down Payment Blues) when they released the CD re-mastered version
i read in the maximum rnr book that 'walk all over you' s concert footage was damaged and the camera crew simply didnt film 'tnt' due to the director not liking the song. they also said the master tapes were stored in some old warehouse under bad conditions and the tapes well got messed up.
The remastering of LTBR would need to be done professionally, mainly because of the difference between film/ audio running speeds. You could get close for a home job but it would never be spot on, the film would have probably utilised SMPTE (real time code related to hours, mins, secs / film or video frames, rather than tempo of music) when it was originally done, so DIY jobs would be still slightly out, even at best. RockerBon, DPB not played at Glasgow, I think it was either DED or DPB dependant on set, not both.
theres actually a torrent out that has a great remaster of the dvd, a little audio is screwed however but i think thats only during interviews but its quite good
they should have just flat out filmed the entire paris show without cutting anything and released that. the interviews are cool but it takes away from the show. it sucks that there are no complete pro-shot bon gigs (not counting TV appearances like Rock Goes To College)
The other shame is where in the fuck is the video from the 4 p.m. show
