What If...Mutt Lange Came Back
If AC/DC were to ever work with Mutt Lange once more, would the out come be what we wanted? Would the guys recreate some old magic and make a great new album,or would it be too over polished and poppy? Would it work again? Imagine Flick Of The Switch with Mutt, better or worse? It would gain quality but loose the Raw Power that makes us love it so. Who knows but, if it were to happen yet again would it be good? I doubt the boys will ever work with him again due to his over polishing reputation but who knows. I for one am curious to the out come.
all i know, is it would be kick ass if they made another flick of the switch type albulm. i think its very raw and genious.
It would be interesting for sure. I don't mind the production on any of the albums after Mutt left (except BUYV which is just an uninteresting album all around except for a track or two).
if mutt produced the next album that would be awesome!! he also needs to produce another Def Leppard album. I support everything about def leppard and i love all of there music but theres been something missing since mutt left.
i wouldnt mind another black ice type album though
I think it might be a good idea,I mean with Mutt they did produce 2 of there best albums. I see pros and cons with him,you know but It's still something i think about. De Leppard should work with him again,I've actually read an interview where I think Joe Elliot said they might make another album with him or just a few songs with him.I'm not sure if it's true or not though. Would be great if they do.
flick of the switch probably would have been popular if they had a better producer
Yeah it would have for sure, but I like Flick's production actually. I'm curious to what it might have been like though, probably great but It's still awesome now.
I think AC/DC needs a new producer or to just produce themselves if they make a new album. Black Ice was good. It wasn't anything more. It all just seemed to run together at times. No up-tempo stuff like LTBR or Fire Your Guns, pretty much the same tempo (except for Rock 'n' Roll Dream, which was a slower tempo).
It would be so kick ass!!! I'm sure Fly On The Wall would've sounded better as well.
I'm a big fan of Mutt, but I think O'Brien did a KICKASS job with Black Ice, and I think I'd like to see them stick with him if they ever do put another album out.
Ehh,I'm not a fan of 'O Brian, love Black Ice,it's a good album but,I think it's off somehow, just the mixing.I don't like the drum sound on it for one.
IDK why people say Mutt was too polished. Just because he did everything right unlike almost every other producer they've had. LiveWire101: I would! BI was just pathetic to be honest. Not at all up to AC/DC's old standards. Also, FOTS would have been no more popular if Mutt produced it. I know we all like FOTS but let's be realistic, it had no "hit" material in it, and the production would not have changed that. PWRiley13: Oh God, we already know what happens when they're left to their own devices. Please, no more self produced albums! And Flick: I agree, O' Brien didn't capture Phil's style and groove at all.
Mutt actually was a great producer, still is,It's just certain things make his production a little too much. I LOVE Highway To Hell,Back In Black, and For Those About To Rock Don't get me wrong, but certain things he did on a few songs is what kinda bothered me. Like that weird effect on Bon's voice on a couple of tunes off of Highway To Hell such as,for example Night Prowler,or Touch Too Much, you know what I mean? Those songs are really good, but I think they'd have been better if Bon was just Bon,no effects or anything, except a little reverb maybe,he sounds darker or like they lowered his pitch.Like Powerage's vocals, clear and natural. Now Brian on the other hand, his voice wasn't really altered on Mutt's Albums, maybe a little echo/reverb effect but mostly just Brian. I actually would like Mutt Lange to make just one more with them, because everything they've did with him was great. Those three albums are Pure Gold, not that any other of the albums are bad. I think it'd help the guys a great deal, people love Black Ice,it's a good album, but it's not mean, hard, or ruff like some of the old tunes. Take Ball Breaker, fantastic album got good riffs, pretty good production, band's on fire Rudd's back,. return to true form. They need an album like that,it needs to be bluesy, and ballsy, as well, not too many "pop-ish" songs.A few on Black Ice kinda were kinda on that side,Anything Goes is a good tune, people always bash it,but it's the weakest on the album.Still good, almost the Moneytalks of Black Ice Black Ice could use a faster pace, and Brian behind the lyrics again as well. Well that's just my opinion, that's all I got for now,lol
Eh, I'm really unsure about this, I think it would be a bad idea if Mutt came back to produced another album. Imo, it would probably be an overproduced mess like FTATR (not knocking the album but it was really overproduced).
BLACK ICE WAS EFFING AMAZING!!!!! im not a critic. i like everything ac/dcs put out. BLACK ICE KICKS ASSS!! the production is great and it has alot of songs.
I like all albums, but some's production are better than others is all. Black Ice is a good album I like it quite a bit,I was just mentioning some parts I don't like about it
flick: Yeah I know what you mean, Bon's voice gets annoying in Night Prowler. TTM sounds cool though to me. Actually, the pitch was altered on almost every song on HTH. Night Prowler the most. One thing I noticed about Brian when Mutt produces is that he sounds almost like they doubled his voice up. BI sounds like O'Brien tried so hard to be Mutt that he totally missed the mark. the drums are too loud and sharp, the cymbals overpowering, the guitars too distorted, I could go on. Plus, Mal used some Guitar Rig type thing for Big Jack which is not cool. As you may be able to tell I hate O'Brien's production. Yeah I agree, the next album needs the raw power of Ballbreaker as well as the polished production. Plus I need to hear Malcolm! boothjorden: Overproduced? That makes no sense. You can't overproduce something. livewire: I like all AC/DC songs except RNR Train because BI was just half-assed at BEST.
I don't hate it,but I'm not in love with it. I kinda get what you mean too,it does seem like he was tryin' to pull a Mutt Lange. Brian's voice does have that doubled/echo sound but,It's not as bad as the weird effect on Bon in Night Prowler.Touch Too Much sounds great don't get me wrong,it's just a little different. My reall beef is Night Prowler really, love the song, botherd by voacl sounds just a bit. I also didn't like that Mal used computer software on Black Ice,that's so below AC/DC's standards.I also think 'O Brian didn't really encourage them to take more than one take, like it sounds like they played a song once and he said "Perfect!,Perfect! That's It" Mutt is a known perfectionist, and it shows in his work Name one song from Any of his AC/DC or Def Leppard work you don't like or have some sort of a respect for.... Exactly I even watched an Interview with Brian, and he said Rock 'N Roll Dream's vocal's were just one take(believe it or not.) Now that one,I'll give 'O Brian,it's perfect, but I think some other songs should have been a little more perfected not that I dislike them, but I hear things that would be better.I can't say if any of them were first takes, but some sound like they didn't have much thought put into them. I don't blame him for it all though,Mal and Ang had some say too,as well as Cliff,Phil, and Brian but,I don't really know. It's just something about Black Ice that gets to me,hard to explain. Proudly own all 4 album covers though, lol
i dont know if you guys play guitar but all the bon albums are annoying as hell to play on guitar because of the pitch
guys i dont wanna argue or anything but i would say "I like all AC/DC songs except RNR Train because BI was just half-assed at BEST." i DO like all of AC/DC's music but you are right production is very different on each album. But black ice is good. i have a strange feeling though that everything theve written up to around 2008 was scrapped. I think they wrote all the songs for black ice in 2008. oh and i do like RNR Train =D
I don't think MUTT producing another ac album is a good idea, there is no way that he could re create the magic spark and inspiration that was was around in '79-81. Those 3 years are my fondest with ac. ps...still missing Bon.
flick: I like what Mutt did with Brian's voice on BIB. not so much Bon's voice though. Yeah I remember an interview with Brian where he said they had no lyrics for RNR Dream so he made them up as he went along and the first take was the one they used ...why doesn't he get credit for the lyrics then? Methinks Brian was talking out of his ass. LOL I just read the part where you mentioned that interview now. Livewire: There's these thing called tuning machines at the end of the neck on this big thing called a headstock... they can change the tension of your strings and you cna make it sound just like Highway To Hell! I don't see why you would want to bother though unless you're playing with the recording, in which case you can use Audacity to fix the pitch. Why would they scrap several years worth of riffs for no reason? Where would you even get that idea? southmen: Recreating teh spark would be AC/DC's job. Mutt's job would be making them sound just like 1980 which he could do if they let him but I doubt they would.
Oh,I like Brian's voice on Back In Black too Didn't mean to sound like I don't,like Bon's voice on Highway To Hell too Just disagreed on a few song's sound (still love those songs) Just sayin'
No I agree, NP is weird. The rest of the album I don't listen to enough to give an opinion on.
