LOSSLESS, LOSSY FORMAT
i'm clickin' through the forum and always i read discussions about the format lossless or lossy. what's the difference? can anybody explain me? thanx! R.I.P.
using a lossy format you will lose information and quality. mp3 have less quality than cd audio, with is a uncompressed form of saving audio. jpeg, mpeg, wmf and mp4, for example, are all lossy files. in lossless data compression, you reduce the size of the file, but didn't lose any information or quality, like a zip file. flac, zip, rar, png, are examples of lossless compressed files. lossless files are much bigger than lossy ones, but when decoded/decompressed you have exactly the same thing before compressing.
And it's also the amount of the compression. A 320kb/s and up is lossy but you will only understand the difference in big speakers.
lossless is for purists only,NOT for rock music lovers - i prefer mp3 and as a taper my tapings were done in mp3 ! the untouched mp3 was used as wav to create the master and from the master a wav(>flac) master and a mp3 master were made. flac u can only play on pc,which sucks :( MP3 !!!
