Stiff Upper Lip
Anyone else think the title track is got some prime 'DC in it? I don't know what it is but that song it's self is just so full of energy I love it,one of their best title tracks if you ask me. What do you guys think? Repetitive as it is,it's just so damn good!!
SUL is a masterpiece, one great, great track. The main riff just injects itself into your brain and drives ya' freakin' batfuckinsane!!!
Great song but the live performances never had whatever made the song special.
Brilliant track. SUL is actually one of my favourite albums; just a great, bluesy rock 'n' roll record. Personally I think the title track was done justice live. The Circus Krone version is amazing!
It's a real great blues rock n roll song, too bad it didn't make it on this tour's set list. Imo, it was better live.
You know, it's funny what suicidehummer said about the live version of SUL. Though it's still excellent live, there's a certain something that's missing compared to the studio version. Noticed that last night listening to the audio from Circus Krone 2003.
It just never had the groove live that I liked about the studio recording. But I think it may have sounded better on this tour if they did play it *cough*...
Listening to the SUL album right now while I'm working. Goes really well with Guiness.
Also goes good with crack... if you're into that stuff.
I think it's great live, and I think it's a stronger track than Black Ice. To me,Black Ice seems more like a Razors Edge type of track. and (I mean the title tracks them selves not as entire albums) Black Ice the song reminds of Razors Edge in it that it's a weird song to name the album after,I mean I like both songs but they seem like strange songs to name an album after. Stiff Upper Lip just has groove that's addicting and I always gets me in a good mood,it's just that type of song. I consider Stiff Upper Lip,the song, better than Black Ice and is also one of the best song's the band have made in the 2000's. Really Excellent Piece Of Work
Nah, never was into doing a drug named after part of a persons backside. ;-)
I thought Rockin All The Wya sounded like it could have been in TRE as well. Actually, eveyr song sounded like it was from another album: Skies On Fire - FTATR Big Jack - BUYV Anything Goes - High Voltage War Machine - TRE Smash N' Grab - BUYV Spoilin' For A Fight - FTATR Wheels - HTH Decibel - Powerage Stormy May Day - BIB She Likes RNR - Ballbreaker Money Made - TRE RNR Dream - Who Made Who Rockin' All The Way - TRE Black Ice - TRE Which is another thing wrong with Black Ice; it has no identity. You could instantly recognize a SUL track because that album has a unique sound to it. But everything off BI sounds like a leftover idea from a past album.
@suicidehummer I get what you're sayin' a couple tracks sound like they range every where from their career Except, I don't think Anything Goes sounds like High Voltage,to my ears anyway. I hear more of Blow Up Your Video than anything in it but Black Ice and War Machine fit The Razors Edge perfectly as far as the style of the songs go (except Phil's drumming,) and I always thought Skies On Fire fit Flick Of The Switch and I never thought about Stormy May Day going on Back In Black, but now that you mention it I could see it being there. The rest you mentioned I agree with, I think Spoilin' For A Fight might be one of the most energetic songs on the album,It's also one I'd love to hear live. It'd work better than Big Jack or Anything Goes IMO Money Made,Spoilin For A Fight, and Stormy May Day actually, Think they'd go over well One more thing,I think Black Ice's guitar tone is bad,not horrible, but not nearly as good as some of their other albums. Like you said,Stiff Upper Lip can be recognized in an instant due to that fat sounding groove. Black Ice is way to clean/computer sounding to me like they attempted to get the Let There Be Rock's sound...with computer effects. i.e. Anything Goes' sounds Let There Be Rock-ish tone wise, especially during the solo
Well yeah Anything Goes is one of the few quality songs off BI so it was a tough to place. Although I do see how it sounds kind of LTBR-ish. I said FTATR for Skies On Fire because it reminded me of Spellbound. I went with BIB for Stormy May Day not because it's good enough to be on BIB but because it has that foreboding, Hells Bells sound to it. Yeah Spoilin' For a Fight might bring some much needed energy into their live shows. I think Angus might muck up the slide part on SMD live. I agree totally, SUL was thick and meaty (lol) whereas BI is clean and computerized. Could have something to do with SUL being recorded on analog equipment.
"I went with BIB for Stormy May Day not because it's good enough to be on BIB but because it has that foreboding, Hells Bells sound to it." Stormy May Day is basically Badlands played with a slide. It is much more similar so BL instead of Hells Bels
LOL dude it's nothing like Badlands. Badlands has a totally different tone, it's more rocking whereas Hells Bells is obviously mourning, and Stormy May Day has a similarly deep mood.
