Bret Michaels
I don't know how many of you care, but I have discovered some very painful news about Poison lead Singer Bret Michaels. Brets new song Nothing To Lose features tone deaf slut Miley Cyrus on additional Vocals. Also, to make matters worse, Miley Cyrus has done a cover of 80's rock ballad Every Rose Has Its Thorn, with Bret on guitar. I am extremely sad that Bret had to sell out like this. AC/DC selling out wasnt that bad. They stayed true to their sound and still rocked night in and night out. Metallica selling out was not as bad as this either. Metallica changed into a mainstream band, BUT still was Thrash Metal God's in their own right. Bret, however, has stabbed all of us Poison fans and Hair Metal fans in the back. Even when Bret did his Souther Rock solo albums, I was ok with that because Bret can play Accoustic very well and, In my opinion, Still rocked. He went on tour with Poison last summer and stayed true to his rock roots. So a few "country" albums was fine with me. But this shameless selling out just pisses me off! I would like to know what you all think of the subject
he has time to do all of this country selling out shit with miley cyrus....but when was the last Poison album...
Rock of Love, and you wanna talk sell out? enuff said
im talking bout Bret Michaels Inc., hes a company and a product of himself, to sell in any market or media that pays the best $$ for what he has to offer. Never my cup of tea all those hairy metal bands, something dodgy about fellas in high heels n makeup if you ask me, but hey ho, whatever rocks yer boat i guess. So ultimately, I know not enough of the subject to comment so I will bow out here.
Bret Michaels and all of that hair metal crap was a sell-out from Day 1. I don't know WTF you're talking about. You're making out as if all of Poison's music was not crap from the beginning. Poison were raised to be pop stars - they did exactly what their record company told them, sold out many arenas for a very short time and lost all their royalties to their record company in what they would later call "a very bad deal." Surprise surprise. To claim that Poison, Bret Michaels or any from that sorry, sad stage in so-called "rock and roll" sold out is to completely miss the point that selling out was their goal all along. I'm not sure what sort of delusionary world you've been living in the last 25 years or so, but if you're ever willing to come back to reality, rob and I will welcome you...
Miley Cyrus is also neither tone-deaf nor a slut. What do you have against sluts anyways? All of Poison's songs are about them and Bret Michaels has made a career of botoxing up his face enough so that sluts still want to fuck him. Man, you talk like that and you lose both credibility and respect. Show some respect to women, man!
Miley Cyrus is not a woman, she's something else. I hate her, and hopes she falls in a ditch. I have nothing against sluts, at all. My mom works corners in Dallas every weekend. How else would I afford Backtracks and all the other stuff worth buying? Poison was a good band. I enjoy their music. Less you forget, people have said the same thing about AC/DC
I agree with Daclarob and RnRDamnation. Poison was a sell out from the get go. RnrDamnation, Miley IS tone deaf by the way. Did you catch her on American Idol last week? F'ing classic crap. I do like some Poison songs however and Bret can definitely sing and has talent but he is a major asshole. How many fights has he been in with C.C. and Bobby? I've always liked C.C. and I loved that he was so fucked up at the MTV awards that he played the wrong song. Fuck MTV.....that's rock and roll.
Hair Metal is amazing! i LOVE IT!!! Motley Crue, Poison, Def Leppard, Van Halen!!! I LOVE ALL OF THOSE BANDS!!! i don't think there's anything wrong with it. i dont think Poison were sell outs but Bret Michaels is
hairy metal was around in the 70s? ie Leppard n Halen, well f+*k me, its true, you learn something new everyday. Still dodgy if you ask me, grown men in stilletos, nah just not right man!
yeah Van Halen 1978-1984 was with roth they were big in the 80's too Leppard were started in like 77 and there big albums were in 83 87 and 92
that'll be the same VH that formed in 1972 as Mammoth before their name change then? Def Leppard? hmm that'll be the wee Sheffield band that supported AC/DC on the HTH uk tour in 79,went on to be acclaimed as the forerunners of the NWOBHM,then buggered off to the US and went huge, hair metal tho? surely not, but there again I was never a great believer in "tags" or genres anyway, music is music is music, either good or bad, but I cant see the connection between those LA lady boys and the likes of VH or Leppard, but what do I know eh? not my thing bud, like Dee Snider im an ugly fuck in makeup and im the first to admit it,but hey some of them guys were SOOO pretty. if rob halford or angry anderson are metal,is that bald metal?
Thanks Rob, for hilariously stating the facts. Statements like Cody's above remind me of the time I was in HMV a few months ago and heard some young hipster at the cash talking to one of his coworkers about Spinal Tap: "Dude, how do you be a band like Spinal Tap, put out one album and then put out another one like 25 years later? Like, what did they do between 1983 and 2010." I almost stopped and reamed him out for his ignorance: a. They're fake. b. They're a parody. c. They put out an album in the early 90s, too. d. They never disappeared - they tour every couple of years. e. They're on tour right now as the actors who portray them. f. If you were somewhat mildly cultured and educated, you'd realize that Nigel Tufnel - as his real name, Christopher Guest - is also a world-class improv director who has made many hilarious films. You should know this because HMV not only sells CDs, but DVDs now, too, asshole! And then I decided against enlightening this poor fool and hoped he would eventually figure things out for himself.
Re Spinal Tap, i take it they were blissfully unaware that Derek Smalls aka Harry Shearer has been a stalwart of that modern day iconic tv programme The Simpsons!! yup somefolks just live under the shadow of a rock right enough. Me personally, im gutted that that great band that played Donnington in 86, Bad News never really took off as they deserved!?! one thing however,we have our memories and a brilliant rerelease of the eponymous debut, who can forget such classics as: 2004 re-release 1. "Hey Hey Bad News" 2. "We Haven't Recorded Anything Yet" 3. "Warriors of Ghengis Kahn" 4. "Excalibur" 5. "Bohemian Rhapsody (Take 1)(Part)" 6. "Bohemian Rhapsody" 7. "The Contract" 8. "Introducing the Band" 9. "Bad News" 10. "Hey Mr Bassman" 11. "Masturbike" 12. "What Are You Going to Wear for Top of the Pops?" 13. "Drink Till I Die" 14. "Maybe We Should Plug the Guitars In" 15. "Pretty Woman" 16. "Life with Brian" 17. "Bad Dreams" 18. "A.G.M." 19. "O'Levels" 20. "Double Entendre" 21. "Cashing In On Christmas" (Dub) 22. "Cashing In On Christmas"
i think van Halen and def leppard are the bands everyone was trying to copy in the 80's.
Couldn't give a shit because hair metal blows.
Yeah it all started out pretty good with bands like Judas Priest and the Scorpions and Def Leppard and Van Halen, and then you can follow the gradual downhill spiral to bands like Motley Crue & Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot, and then came Poison and Armless Def Leppard and the rise of Bon Jovi, and then it really fell apart with bands like Winger and Trixter and Firehouse in the 90s. I will admit that I owned quite a few Poison albums, but will try to fall back on the fact that I was in Jr. High and besides, that's what everyone was listening to because that's what MTV was telling us to like back in the days when they still showed videos. Bret Michaels is douchebag.
Twisted Sister were a product of New York City's 1970's rock scene and were faithful students of the New York Doll's glam school, with Kiss' theatrics and the shock rock of Alice Cooper. Twisted Sister formed in Manhattan in 1973; Snider joined three years later. The band, which also includes guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza, and drummer A.J. Pero, worked the club scene for more than a decade and were a popular NY bar band , recording only demos and various singles. In November 1979 the band recorded the single "I'll Never Grow Up " at Electric Lady studios with famed Hendrix/Kiss engineer Eddie Kramer. It was many years before the band finally landed a deal with independent Secret Records in 1981. The flew to England as the NWOBHM movement was in full swing around this time as well. Together with producer Pete Way (UFO), the band recorded their first full length record for Secret Records. The band kept growing despite any sort of label attention or promotion. Finally a promoter Atlantic Records in England signed the band, apparently unaware that Atlantic had already rejected Twisted Sister on numerous occasions in America. Twisted Sister only grew in popularity from this point on, gaining even more success touring the U.S. with Dio. MTV really helped break the band out with their massively successful "Stay Hungry" album, that was sparked by the humorous videos for "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It". Unfortunately the band could never live up to the hype of that record and began a spiral downward with their very next release. After the demise of Twisted Sister, the band's ring leader/vocalist Dee Snider went on to do several solo projects including Widowmaker with Al Piterli (Savatage/Asia/Megadeth), Desperado with Bernie Torme (Gillan) and a solo record (Dee Snider) with AJ Pero. Overcoming major differences between band members, Twisted Sister finally managed to reform in '01 to perform some reunion shows and record for various releases. In 2004 the band began touring. hair metal my arse, they were fuckin Heavy Metal and it took coming to the UK for them to get recognition they sorely deserved, much like a certain Jimi Hendrix nearly 20 years before!! Nah, cant agree with ya bud, having seen Twisted Fuckin Sister quite a few times, they are as heavy as a really heavy thing! And the makeup was intended purely for shock value given the band are all big ugly guys, as the man himself says "I don't think Twisted Sister is "Glam" because that implies glamour, and we're not glamorous. We should be called "Hid" because we're hideous." -Dee Snider Fuckin hair metal, aye righty then, much like Motorhead are a RnB band.
Wow! Just sayin that in the 70s, Priest was gaining popularity as a metal band, in the early 80s Twisted Sister was a very popular metal band, By the late 80s, Poison (whom I've always thought modeled themselves off the successful Twisted Sister image) was considered metal, and in the early 90s, Firehouse passed for metal. Just saying that was the image of metal through the years. And yes, there was real metal during that time like Slayer, but what passed for metal in the eyes of the average citizen got a little blurry in the late 80s because of a chain reaction that was force fed to us by MTV, and Stay Hungry played a big part in that. And I know that Twisted Sister was around for a decade before Stay Hungry, but for a good 95% of the population, their cultural relevance begins and ends with that album. No one used the term hair metal until it was long gone from the popular music scene. Now they use the euphemism "Pop Metal" to distinguish it from real metal. And I never called Twisted Sister a hair metal band! SMF
Let's just all agree, that Bret Michaels looks like an ugly woman, and is a sellout, and anyone who listens to Poison still is a horrible person.
i listen to poison......so im a horrible person???
BUT it does blowdry!!! and mebbe a wee bit of a backcomb
LiveWire: Yes, yes you are, and yes it does. daclarob: ZING!
wow another band forum with a bunch of people arguing...great
Arguments are the spice of life. Also, exotic women, and boring cheese.
Twisted Fucking Sister!! Ok after stay hungry they died (fortunately show them in 2000something) and they wend to idiots recording xmas albums but till stay hungry they were mad!And of course not a hair metal band. On another note.Def Leppard are not hair metal but after Hysteria they dig their own graves. P.S. Did somebody claimed Judas Priest are hair metal band?Cuz if so then he should be committed to a hospital pronto.
i liked what they did after Hysteria....im very open minded music-wise unlike alot of you guys..
There's a thin line between "open-minded" and having bad taste. I think you've crossed that line, brother.

Beefheart. Yeah variety is the spice of life Guess that means im kinda open minded re music,as ive said on numerous posts, i will try anything once, did listen to Poison etc back in the day, gotta give evry thing a chance, and the women in the clubs liked that kinda thing. Sadly the deep lyrics and the oh so flattering covers coupled with the generic riffing quickly ensured that the vinyls were utilised as ashtrays. So in summary, in my umble opinion yer hairy metal, mtv fuelled cross dressing bands were not really up to the mark,as history has shown, what exactly are they doing now? Last time i looked it was crappy reality shows and "good old days "package tours. But I for one respect anybodys right to like whatever they wish,at the end of the day its a boring world if we all like the same thing. Used to be funny in the clubs and at Donnington in the 80s tho, in the clubs you couldnt get moving in the toilets for "guys" sortin their makeup, and at the festivals, well, high heels were never gonna be much good in the mass of a crowd in a muddy field! Give them there due tho', they did try, but jeesus they were scary at the end of the gigs when the makeup had all ran and the backcombed hair had collapsed, looked like a melted Alice Cooper doll ,Eurghh. But fair do's you makes yer choices I spose Peace out people Be Nice to each other Dave
Hey all you guys are talking about Bret Michaels and Poison being sell outs.... Ummmm have you been to walmart or sears latley...?? just wondering if you have seen any AC/DC stuff there...?? personaly I think AC/DC is more of a sell out..AC/DC even had pet clothing and toys at Walmart...Point made...POISON RULES!!!!!!!!!!
Believe me if poison were at some 1% popularity or AC/DC your walmart's would be full of Poison playmobil's :P
Sap's got it ^^^ They don't have a fraction of the fan base AC/DC do
First, I'd like to know who the coward behind "biteme" is. 1 post and that was to defend his precious Brett. Second, AC/DC have deals with WalMart...ok. Valid point. But AC/DC don't have TV series where they're trying to find "love" (read: sex), for 2 seasons, and aren't kissing Donald Trump's wigged ass either. So say what you will about AC/DC, but yeah, Brett Michael is the biggest sellout bitch of them all. And his music sucks. And Poison. And hair metal in general. Also you suck.
HA! OKAY WHATEVER...I GUESS SELLING SQUEEKY DOG TOYS isnt considered being a Sell out..."oh they have deals with walmart.." and who cares if AC/DC has a bigger fan base..they should theyve only been here since the freaking dinosaures... and dont think for a minute that Old ugly angus wouldnt of took that rock of love gig if it was offered to him... and I dont care if you think I suck..I wouldnt want you lame ass people to think I was cool anyways... you BLOW!!!!
biteme is right, AC/DC sold out. 2 days ago infact. CONCERT REVIEW: Sold-out crowd enjoys a wild ride aboard AC/DC's 'rock and roll' express. http://acdc-bootlegs.com/news/articles/?id=987
