AC/DC not punk, but has the attitude?
Hey guys, ive had alot of different opinions thrown on me with AC/DC and the punk scene, and i wanted to hear what you guys think. Over the years of being a fan, the words "punk rock" are something that back in the '70s bands like AC/DC found to be shivering and frowned upon it. Over the years my very close friends who's heart belongs to punk rock have always told me that AC/DC, especially in the Bon Scott era, has the "punk attitude" telling me that they are the 1st band to use OI in a song and that along was an influence on punk. My best friend tells me "Bon Scott was not a punk rocker, but his attitude toward life and the music and who he was, is exactly what punk rock is all about." Alot of punk shows i have been to, it was not uncommon to see the guitar player playing a Gibson SG and the players i did manage to talk to about the music say that Angus Young has a part to do with why they play that guitar. -I'd like to know your opinions on the subject, these have been floating through my head for a bit and i just would like to see how true AC/DC fans feel
AC/DC were not punk but were incorrectly labeled as such during their beginning years. Punk attitude - - is there really such a thing??? It should be correctly identified as a rebellious attitude and nothing more.
no i dont think there is such a thing as "punk attitude" but the keyword "Attitude" is what gets bands mislabeled in the first place, i know its not the greatest of arguments, i just find it all quite interesting
In Oz the expression "Punk" refers to a person who does what they want, says what they want and doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks about it. When AC/DC first came on the scene here there was nothing to compare them to but their attitude certainly fit the Punk definition. As far as Punk music, AC/DC should never have been put into that category. But you know I think the guys would have laughed it off and taken the attitude "Any press is good press".
AC/DC IS NOT PUNK! Punk music is all about the energy/attitude and not the musicianship, which is why it sounds like crap. AC/DC does not. Case closed.
