Reduced Quality of audio rips

Has anyone noticed that audio ripped from DVDs seem to lose certain aspects of the music? I've noticed that the Live at Donnington and No Bull rips both lose a little of the sound (usually whatever level/wave constitutes Angus' playing and solos). I'm also having this issue with the Studio Breakers bootleg of the VH1 Sessions. Does anyone have an explanation/solution to this? If so, does anyone have a link to a VH1 Sessions that doesn't have this problem?

I think it's due to most rips being mp3. I don't think I've heard a FLAC rip but I'm sure they sound much better.

How do you get a FLAC rip? I've used Osex and it rips them as avi. and then I convert them into something else.

Speaking of quality loss has any one hear the stiff upper lip live audio rip from black ice bootlegs ? Brian sounds deep and his voice and music is slowed down on it, TNT thunderstruck and shoot to thrill sound great on it but i wonder what happend to the sound ? The link is on black ice bootlegs if you want to listen.

The reduced quality is probably a mix of yes, mp3, but also the equipment used to listen to it. Your mp3 player's headphones are of significantly less quality than say, your TV's speakers. Better equipment would equal better sound quality output. Of course, that depends on the source material presented. MP3's sound rather tinny to me. And ripping DVD audio to FLAC is pointless unless the original audio is PCM lossless; AC3 is similar to MP3.

Thanks for the input Brian and others. To test the speaker idea I played the songs through my Bose ipod thing. You can kind of hear the solo, but it's just so muted it might as well not be there at all. This leads me to believe it has something to do with the audio rip itself. I've tried with both the DVD's (Donnington and No Bull; less so with the latter) as well as with Studiobreakers and the result was the same. That said, if anyone has a better quality version of any of these, I'd be greatly obliged if you'd like to share. Unfortunately I don't have much to return by way of trading, and I'm not sure where these things fall when it comes to not posting officially released stuff, but hopefully it's ok to at least ask around for it. Anyone with info that might be out of bounds please feel free to PM me! Thanks very much guys; you've been a great help in introducing me to AC/DC beyond the albums you can get at Best Buy.

Nothing that can't be fixed in Soundforge. I've done it with all their DVD rips. No Bull being the worse.
