brian's lyrics
I dont know why but i have a feeling that brian will be the one to make the lyrics for the next album. I remember reading somewere that brian had stated he would write the lyrics for the new album (black ice) but ended up not being so. so i think he and the lads will talk about it and mabe brian will bring his rude raw punch in the gut lyrics back, i really hope so. what do you think?
I really hope he does, because his lyrics where much,MUCH better than Angus and Malcolms. I love Hold Me Back on Stiff Upper Lip,but I have to agree with (I think it was suicidehummer who said it,I may be wrong here) The lyrics are borderline Retarded. We need some songs with meaning, and guts.
What confuses me about the Black Ice album was that we were told for years and years and press release after press release that Brian was going to be writing the lyrics to the "new" album for the first time in 20 years. Then, when the time for the release came, suddenly all the lyrics were actually credited to Angus and Malcolm. But, if you actually listen to the lyrics, the rhythm, the wording, some songs resemble Brian much more than the Young brothers. The most notable of this is Runaway Train, which lyrically and rhythmically looks like something Brian could have easily come up with for the Jackyl collaborations or the marijuana movie soundtrack, but in almost no way resembles what Angus and Malcolm came up with for the previous three albums. So what is the backstory on Black Ice? Why were Brian's lyrics suddenly pulled? How many of his lyrics were actually pulled? How many were "revised" by Angus and Malcolm for the album and how did they end up with full credit? If they were "revised" and the Young brothers still get full credit for writing the songs, does any of this bother Brian? Also, we know Brian can write good songs if he has a goal in mind. Looking back at the marijuana movie, some of those lyrics are at least as witty and funny as anything Bon has done. So if anyone can enlighten me on what happened during the years we were told Brian was writing lyrics again and the time Black Ice came out with Ang and Mal claiming full credit for songwriting duties, I'd be very interested to hear it.
Well a few facts I know is that Ang and Mal sent Brian home one day and told him they call him, when the songs are done. I also heard he came up with some short lyrics (Big Jack: "He said that he's the only one who got a full sack" <-- Brian made that lyric part according to one of his interviews) If there ever will be a full story. I donīt know.
So yeah one of the best lyrics Brian did was Heatseeker imo.
Okay, first of all yes that was me Flick, and I stand by what I said. Patrick: The lyric is "Santa ain't the only one who's got a full sack." The dumbasses who put the lyrics in the album booklet couldn't even figure out one of the most obvious lyrics. RNRDamnation: I think Brian was under the impression that he would write the lyrics for quite a while there, until he found out Mal and Ang had already written lyrics for their songs. He probably didn't want to mention the misunderstanding out of embarrassment.
That it was you,and I agree 100% the only reason they sound cool because Brian can sing'em that way. They make no since at all really, lol.
Yep. Although I guess they work on Can't Hold Me Back just because of the funky bluesy nature of the song. Blues lyrics are often dumb and predictable.
with full respesct to suicidehummer's opinion (i dont wanna start an argument again) i wouldnt call the lyrics borderline retarded, but more like "no meaning" but you gotta admit they are good songs that mal and ang have made, they wouldnt have been titled lyric wrighters of the year (i read on a tweet from the maker of the BEYOND THE THUNDER movie.) i mean, i still cant help to sing along to black ice album, or stiff upper lip, ballbreaker, and the razors edge. ride on.
I sing along too,I mean they're are some good Ang/Mal written songs don't get me wrong, but the lyrics are terrible, lol. Not that 'DC were ever known for having the smartest lyrics, but a song about something is better than one that's not. The last 4 albums have some killer tracks, and there are some exceptions lyric wise. I think The Razors Edge had the best lyrics out of the 4 they've done so far.
You seem to be missing the point Esau. I didn't say they were bad songs, I said the lyrics are nonsense. To really have another hit, or to return to their former glory, they musts start writing solid lyrics again. YSMANL wouldn't be the good-times anthem it has become if the lyrics weren't relatable. It would just be a good song with a catchy melody, which is the best they have come up with since Brian stopped writing.
i see your point now, and by the way the gibson on your picure is it yours? its nice.
