What is phil doing with his mouth when he drums? I showed my dad DVD of AC/DC playing live and he said he sucked at drumming because he is counting. I just want to make sure he doesnt suck at drumming.

I think thats the way he keeps in rhythm. Just like how Malcolm taps his foot to the beat.

Wesley: Listen to Phil's drumming? Does it sound like he sucks? Have your dad listen to Phil's drumming? Does your dad, upon listening (not seeing) to Phil drum, think he sucks? You might also want to ask your dad why Phil keeping time means he sucks. I mean, isn't Phil's job to KEEP TIME?

Uh, your dad is an idiot. Phil Rudd only counts to keep Malcolm and Angus in time.

I doubt he is counting the entire time. Maybe during a strip tease but not during a regular time except to kick it off. If you notice: he only does that thing with his mouth when he hits his snare. It's to keep time and it's what a lot of good old school drummers do. Look at John Bonham. He did that too. And he doesn't suck. You need to read up on other drummers a ton of them list Phil as an influence. Phil is arguably the second best straight ahead drummer in the rock world behind Charlie Watts. He is incredibly tight and AC/DC is renown for their rhythm section.

I don't think he's counting, well he is in his head, but I don't think what he does with his mouth it count. It's like, when you're concentrating on something hard, you just don't notice things like your mouth. Angus does it too, when he's playing, I think I do too actually when I play. And the thing is, he manages to stay in time when he smokes and his mouth doesn't move.
