My original setlist estimation from 2008
I was cleaning my PC and i found the estimated setlist that i had send to people asking me what it will look like. This was created at the first day the album was leek..errr released. Rock n Roll Train Gone Shootin' Thunderstruck Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be Hard As A Rock Shoot To Thrill War Machine Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution You Shook Me All Night Long Stiff Upper Lip Rock n Roll Dream - ??? strip show Hells Bells If You Want Blood The Jack Back In Black Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap Highway To Hell Whole Lotta Rosie Let There Be Rock T.N.T. For Those About To Rock(We Salute You) And of course after that....They toured.
Not bad. Thankfully they didn't play "Rock and Roll Dream" though. It's one of only three AC/DC songs that I fuckin' hate (the other two being "Anything Goes" and "Love Song"). Oh, and although I don't hate it, I just try to forget that "Blow Up Your Video" ever happened (except for "Some Sin For Nuthin").
Nice, but i agree with "DD and MT". The only songs i really don't like and I never listen to, are: - Are you ready (the live version is worth a try) - If you dare - RnR Dream - Anything Goes (the live version is still not worth a try!) And in the second row: - Let's make it - She likes RnR - Stormy May Day
I hate the slower songs like 'Are You Ready', 'Love Song', 'Anything Goes' and 'Moneytalks' (yes, unfortunately that is one of my not so favorites).
It sounds like your estimated setlist was based on Brian's comment from way back that the obscure songs from the 2003 tour (RnR Damnation, Gone Shootin', If You Want Blood) would also be used in the following album tour, which ended up not happening for another 5 years. Brian's statement was, of course, promptly ignored as the band created their Black Ice McTour. If they wanted to play more poppy stuff like Are You Ready or Moneytalks or even RnR Dream (which is probably the most honest song on the Black Ice album), it wouldn't have been a problem for me. At least they would have been changing it up a bit... Really, the Black Ice McTour was nothing more than a gimmicky money-grabber. 85 guys to change the lights if they switch up their setlist once in a while? Bullshit. If David Gilmour of the Pink Floyd can switch up parts of his setlist every few nights with his amazing and complex light show, even to the extent where he spontaneously breaks into "On the Turning Away" in the middle of a concert in Italy and makes the band follow him and the lighting board guys improvise some atmosphere, then surely the "anti-gimmick" boys of AccaDacca can handle a bit of spontaneity, creativity and artistry... When the Black Ice Live album finally comes out, will anyone be able to tell if they took a guitar part from one concert and subbed it into a song from another show? Probably not...
When I heard RīnīR Dream for the first time I was just surprised for the step they did using/working with (propably) samples.(pre produced outtakes...of several voice tracks) I think the producer refreshed that song with these effects and definetly the band had the choice to keep it or delete it. IMO it was worth a try, that song spreads really his own mood, surely different, but captures me everytime Iīm listening to, and this because itīs 2010 and not 1978 anymore.
@josch the vocals on RnR Dream were actually the first and only take Brian did on that track.
how do you know? I donīt think the recordings were 100% analog, that sounds digital copied, edited, cut and paste from the original voice track and sent through a mill of effects...... I wasnīt part of this process, I tell my only speculations
I think rnr dream would be fitted better on the show rather than Anything Goes, that everybody here were telling me,friendly or not, to shut my mouth and that is a super song...That eventually the band axed ;) Yes the speculation were from Brian and Malcolm and also being way lot more into AC/DC inner circles those days i knew for a fact that they were ready to do some of these...And $ony did not liked it (?) . That's why i insisted that they will do them on the second part of the tour.I'm not a dreamer or something, i got some facts and i was surprised, angered, depressed, mad and i had to accept they were becoming a rip off that they proved with the show, the boxsets (btw plug me in is on sale, guess the rare boxes did not sale), the Brian "fuck you fans",the multicolor, etc. Actually i was pissed off for another reason also.I am collecting rare cd's. Normally a rare promo or single is that, a rare promo or single. They were issuing "rare" promos or singles by thousands like they were also on the "collectors market".So after the first rnr train promo i gave the finger and i refuse to get anything from this day forth.Guess they tried to ruing my hobby to.Thanks.
@josch Brian mentions it in an interview. it was a 3part interview i saw on youtube. here's the links to them. i can't remember which part it was in. part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hG8wtHht_g part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JVcZq3pyUw part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB7-Y4_ZYJE
Where are you getting this info from, Sap? If Sony's controlling AC/DC's setlists now, that's really sad, especially for a band that has been around as long as AC/DC. I hope the boys didn't sign any sort of 360 degree deal with Sony. Sony's done nothing to earn AC/DC's live revenue and they should not have any say whatsoever in AC/DC's live show. Come on boys - stand up to the man and put on the show you WANT to put on!!! (PS - It's also bad form to tell your fans to go fuck themselves. Sony would have no money to pay you if we didn't pay them first...)
I did not say that i know Sony controlled the setlist.I mainly said that the "rare" songs have taken a go on the setlist but they were brutally cut off.Now after 2 years i calmly try to figure out why.Putting parts together the name Sony is pooping again and again to my mind. $ony has the product and make it go in what way they want to.Kinda like puppets.I have connections with Sony Greece and i thought i would investigate but that was 1 year ago.Now i basically don't care. Mainly i feel sorry for the band being forced to agree with everything and sorry for fans over 25-27 that they have seen them in the past. But i guess the band does not care anymore.Selling out is a one way road tat very few did ever return from it.
This stuff with AC/DC's set list is not only old news, but total bullshit. AC/DC did nothing on this tour in regards to their set list any different than they did on every single tour up until Ballbreaker. The only time that AC/DC in their entire career ever made any major changes to their set list was during the second leg of SUL and the 2003 shows. So where does this bullshit about them "selling out" come from? This site has an entire section for AC/DC's past set lists that confirm that the band has only changed a song or two here and their, throughout there entire career. Get off it already Sap, for all the dopes that now hate AC/DC because they don't bow before some complete nobodies complaints about their set list, I'll quote Brian Johnson..."Fuck off"; and I'll add to that "go find some other band to listen to". All this bitterness over absolutely nothing. PS - The deluxe Backtracks also still rocks...So go suck on that you whiny (and in some cases) cheap bastards.
On some level you're right, Dirty Deeds. The whole purpose of a rock and roll band is to sell out, so I don't quite get the "sold out" argument either. However, if Sony is controlling their setlists (ie - if the band wanted to play RnR Dream as part of their Black Ice tour, but Sony put a hold on it because it doesn't sound "AC/DC enough" or some other such absurdity), that is something to be concerned with. Sony should see about 0 dollars of AC/DC's touring revenue, and thus their setlists, but if it can be proven to the contrary then we will know for a fact that they signed up for a very bad deal. Only amateur bands who still believe in record labels sign up for 360 deals these days. And you're right - they showed little to know creativity with their setlists during the 80s and early 90s and if that's the argument they're using for not releasing full shows (ie - it would be "boring for fans"), then they a) know exactly how hardcore fans feel and b) did it to themselves. You are also right that between 96 and 2003, the band did begin to switch things up a bit more and I think that's where the frustration sets in, because they stopped that minor creative streak with the Black Ice Tour and we're all a bit knackered because we were just getting our hopes up that the spontaneous and fun band we once enjoyed was making a comeback. As for Plug Me in and Backtracks not sucking, well, you're entitled to your opinion. Some believe McDonalds and KFC are pretty great, too...
Dirty Deeds and Money Talks. First, good post RnRDamnation. Now. Mr deeds. As you said you are paying attention to the forum. So why the hell did you say that the sell out has something to do with the setlist? No one is whining, personally i don't give a rats ass about them for more over a year. But please, pretty please mr Deeds can i make my observations?I said they were to go with some rare songs and the songs were axed?Don't you care why?You just don't give a f$ck?All you want to do is protect 50 year old men that they also don't give a f%ck about you like they give a f#ck about us? The "fuck off fans" was for us not you so let us enjoy it and kindly replay to AC$DC.Thank you again mr deeds for not banning us from this great forum that you have contributed so much over the years that we anxiously expected their return.Thank you an of course.Kiss my a$$. :) P.S. The deluxe backtracks is a gift by idiots(Sony) to idiots.Of course NP,Nate and all my friends here are off the hook and anyway they go it for collective reasons. Some others got it because they are simply idiots. If you feel insulted you are one of them.
I also would like to listen to pre 2008 official stuff if it's ok with you.The kiss my a$$ is in a friendly tone.If we get to a fight believe me you will know it.Let's not ;)
