Converting MTS Files

Hi folks I recently received 2 discs of MTS files in a trade and am having trouble converting them to a format I can actually view. Does anyone have any experience with them? I've googled them a number of times but still don't have any luck. If you've worked with them before & know what to do, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

http://download.cnet.com/Free-HD-Converter/3000-2194_4-11382363.html converts MTS files, not sure if it's just a trial version. i'm installing it right now. i'll let you know when i'd done.

from what i can tell it's a completely free full version of the software. i don't have any mts files to convert so i'm not sure how well it works.
