site improvements?
In my time away from working on the site, I've been thinking about ways to improve it. I've got a few and will list them here. Please post any ideas you think would help improve this site and make it even bettter than it is now. Thanks, Nate My Ideas FAQ Page -- Misc info about this site and ac/dc in general, will include the forum topic about the live locations for the Live album Updated Member Page - add the missing countries to the map Forum - Improve the forum home page so it's easier to see new messages Links - submit your own links to your favorite sites Bootleg of the Month - sorry, can't offer more bootlegs to download :D fix the location problems, improve the layout of the page Trade Lists Page - provide more info and links to current trade lists Paid Memberships - this is an idea i've been throwing around for a while. for a monthly fee, members would be able to receive hard copies (snail mailed cdr's) of the bootleg of the month, or more from the polls. The fee would cover cdr's, labels, and postage, so I wouldn't be selling bootlegs. I'm still working out the specifics, but would like to hear feedback if anyone would be interested. Monthly fees would range from $5 to a max of $20 for more cdr's. Nothing is set in stone, just an idea i had. Donations - While I'm more than willing to run the site for free, it does cost money and take a lot of time to keep it up to date. Some members have asked about donating, so I will be posting a donations page on the site. It will include info about supporting the site and donating cash, bootlegs, and more if you're interested. That's all i can think of for now, let me hear some from you. N
If you implement paid memberships that include the BOTM CD-Rs; keep the free memberships, not that i wouldn't sign up for it.... If the donations thing works out good enough, you could upgrade your server/site to have more bandwidth so you include more than 1 bootleg a month, or have it available longer.
also include an "edit" option for posts on the forum
The free memberships will be staying as is no matter what I decide. Just offering the other levels of membership to those that prefer hard copies or have a slow internet connection. Good idea for the edit option on the forum. I've added something like that to other sites I've done so it should be an easy addition. Nate
I don't know if anyone else has this problem but the site won't recognize me, I have to login every time I visit. So could you just use cookies so we can stay logged in forever? And it would be nice if you you could remove the new window links, like the monthly give-away links. Just let them open in the same window.
Someone needs to mod the forum though.Not me of course, I have my hands full with the Rising Power forum lol. I have a feeling this site is really going to take off in the next 6 months. Other than that you got a great AC/DC site Nate. How about if the fans can upload more stuff, like pics, shirts, a AC/DC tattoo section.

About the bandwidth issue: why don't you just make a torrent for the bootleg of the month? That way you can survive with minimum bandwidth and we can still get old bootlegs of the month.
now would be a perfect time to implement paid memberships, would also allow people to TRADE the bootlegs since they wouldn't be MP3, but they would be lossless, also does the BOTM support resume and it won't seem to want to download with DAP
I think a paid subscription idea isnt a bad one. Maybe, instead of cdrs, use the money for more bandwidth, and make the download only "paid user" accessable. Another idea I put in a different thread(not realizing that it was being discussed here) is to put up a PAYPAL donations link. I think this whole website concept is fantastic, I would be glad to throw down a few bucks each month to see it live on.
I agree with tiered paid membership, but personally would go for a donations system. If you go for a paid membership function, could that be viewed as paying for bootlegs? If it was, then would that not be illegal? Donations avoid this legality as they are not specifically tied to getting *more* from a bootleg. "make the download only "paid user" accessable" - that will kill the site spaterrock. This site is the best site of its kind imo. The email reminders we get are terrific. I only hope that acdc-videos.com would have taken the donations system to heart, as I offered GUI many times some cash to keep it going. I miss it :(
Hey guys, I'm back on the site for the most part. After a few very busy weeks with another project, things are starting to quiet down a bit so I'll have a little more time to devote to this site. As far as the paid memberships go, these are my thoughts: As far as it seeming like you're paying for bootlegs, my reasoning is that the membership fee goes toward the cdr's, labels, envelopes and postage. The main reason I was very hesitant to bring up the whole idea of paid memberships is because of me receiving money for sending out bootlegs. The last thing I want to be accused of is selling bootlegs. I still haven't figured out if this will be legal or not, so I'm not sure if it will happen yet. The donations page is probably the best way to go. I'll leave it pretty open ended, meaning that users will be able to donate whatever they can. I'll make up a list of things that would help the site grow, and see how it goes from there. Mostly, it'll be for a cash donation (via Paypal), but I'd also be interested in other hosting sources if anyone has any connections. That is what I really need at the moment, so that may be the best thing to look for. Basic memberships here will never require a fee. The popularity of this site is thanks largely to the free bootleg of the month, so I won't be charging anything to get it. Donations will only be optional to the members if they can afford it. That just about covers my views on the bandwidth problem. On a side note, some of you may have noticed that the domain acdc-videos.com has been directed to this site. I'll be posting this on the home page, but just want to thank Gui for redirecting it here. It looks like it won't be back again as far as offering as many videos as it once did, I'm sorry to say. maybe to avoid the legality issues with paid memberships, have members send you blank, these blanks would obviously be used to burn the BOTM and the other 2 or 3 would be used to cover postage costs; the only problem would be keeping track of WHO sent you blanks; donations are also a great idea but whoever said there should be a "paid user only" bootleg, THAT would most likely be considered selling boots
That's not a bad idea. Those that agree to send in blanks will then agree to not download the BOTM and may recieve small bonuses on each disc. That could be a winner. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Nate
and they could send you more discs if they wanted more of the bootlegs from the poll (tiered memberships) ex: last month, flies on the soundboard, one of these days, kissin' dynamite, and aftershocks (alt version) were on the poll, the lowest level of membership would be just to download the boot that one (flies on the soundboard), the next level would be sending BigNate blanks (flies was 2 discs so you'd probably send four [2 for the boot and 2 for postage)], but lets say you wanted the #2 boot on the poll (i think it was aftershocks), you would send 4 for "flies" and another 2 or 3 for "aftershocks (alt)", and so on and so forth P.S. Nate: i finally got a dvd player that worked and one of these days is fantastic
Nice idea acdcussr, you would need some kind of chec system in place tho, to help prevent someone from both downloading and receiving a copy of the same bootleg on CD. On the hosting front, what are your requirements/current costs? I may be able to hook you up...
i dunno if you could program the file to not be downloadable by some users, like it is now where you must be logged in to download it GoneShootin: why would they WANT to download it and recieve a hard copy? the CD would be in so much better quality (.wav or .shn) and they would just be taking up bandwidth for the site AND for their internet, they could download boots they dont have from DC++ or some other trading program
you'll also have to be sure to make sure that the discs a person sends, are the same discs that you send to them; ex: on person sends you some crappy durabrand discs, another sends you memorex, another sends sony, you'll need to send the memorex ones to the memorex person, the sony ones to the sony person, and the durabrand ones to the durabrand person i dont know if this was automatically assumed or never thought of BigNate: please add an edit button on the forum, there are many times on this forum and others where i would have loved to edit my posts, either because of something i realized or it was in the wrong thread or topic area

I really think that a donations link is the best way to go. Not everyone can afford to pay and not everyone would want to pay. But I know I will be willing to put up a little dough each month to help out, and I'm sure that there are others as well. Probably enouph to fix the bandwidth problem. I think this site and the whole concept is great. Rock in peace!
yea u should consider making a section for acdc backmasking clips that would rock
