Interesting article about Dave Evans
http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/dave-evans-give-me-my-place-in-acdc-history/ Within all his bitching he does make a couple good points. I for one would have loved to see Can I Sit Next To You Girl / Rockin' In The Parlour on an official release. It would've been appropriate to include them on Backtracks
I myself, am in a band. Our current line up has been together for about 10 years and we've put an insane amount of work into getting us where we are right now (Tony Platt is producing our next record). If any of the band members, who were with us early on, publicly demanded what Dave Evans is demanding, I'd personally go and kick their arses. Being on the 'unofficial' site for the bands real fans (ACDC-BOOTLEGS) I think we all know how shitty of a singer dave evans was and how much he didn't fit into what Malcolm and Angus were trying to achieve. I don't think that dave realizes how much hard work went into getting AC/DC where they were - after he'd been sacked. Even by the time they released Dirty Deeds a lifetime of work went into conquering what they'd conquered. I have severely huge doubts as to dave's next band blowing the Juggernaut-1970's-era AC/DC off of the stage. That just proves that he's fkn deluded lol. As for what he's demanding, jeeze man...Give it up already. Even his picture in the article proves that the pretentious bastard still doesn't fit in the true AC/DC model. If he was so fkn talented, why does he deserve to rest on the Laurels of AC/DC? Shouldn't he be somewhere in the history books by now? The guys obviously a bum. When you think about it, the 6 guys we know as AC/DC are truly "the band" . Anyone else is either just a former member or a misfit who was just "warming the bench". I mean Chris Slade's contribution was worth more than dave evan's. If dave's contributions were so damn valuable, why did the band's lyrical style change so drastically when Bon Joined? Because Daves contributions weren't usable. They just didn't fit the model of the DC we all know and love. I know I'm rambling on a bit, but seeing this article just pisses me off. I mean, come on! I can't believe the guy even got an interview in Classic Rock Magazine! Considering the guy was only in the band for 10-ish months. Probably the easiest 10 months the band had, work wise, in the first 10 years. What do you guys think? PS, the more I think about it...This is the best AC/DC site out there. AC/DC should hire Nate to preserve the band's history!
Thanks for the link SG!! @Maj, nice long opinion and you bring up some good points as to how much work was put into the band AFTER Evans was already gone which I agree. I have read many biography books which I have in my collection, and you always hear how much Angus and Malcolm put in a lot to get the band where they are, of course with the help of the Youngs' older brother. Not saying Dave Evans was the worst singer ever, but for AC/DC I feel Bon was the one who really got the ball rolling. IMHO anyway.
I agree so much with you guys. I fucking hate it everytime Dave Evans gets on his stump and preaches how he was wrongly fired and all that. It always gets me fuming mad. Maj. got it right. He bums around and plays "tribute" gigs to anyone who will listen and makes a couple of dollars playing Bon era tunes. Enough is enough. Jeez dude, get a life. Throw away the black hair dye. Thats real old too. I wouldn't pay 2 cents to go see Dave Evans sing with any band out there. BTW, his autograph was on auction recently.....sold for like $15.00. Please Dave, just go away.
Lol...He thinks his band Rabbit would have blew AC/DC off the stage...haha..sure...what ever you say mr.evans
I will say that he not being mentioned in at least one sentence on the website is kinda BS. Also his single isn't listed. If AC/DC wanted to mention him, without mentioning him explicitly, they could say something along of the lines of "the first single, which was only released in Australia, was re-recorded for the Australian-only T.N.T. album and later included on the international High Voltage release." It would actually be perfect. Dave Evans' short time with the band is mentioned, but no dirty details have to come out about his departure. If he and other original members are on Wikipedia and other unofficial sources, it makes AC/DC seem like they are trying very hard to cover up the early days of the band. Heck, originally the website didn't even have the Australian releases (which the fans really want Dave, not your single, it's been publicly and privately traded in lossless form all over the AC/DC fandom) but they are there now, just not able to be ordered (Hey Australian AC/DC fans, aren't the 90s remasters the only ones to feature the Australian-only versions of the albums?).
Don't get me wrong I'm in no way defending Dave, I don't like him as a (glam rock) singer either! BUT what I want to ask is how should we view that first single as part of AC/DC history? I mean, when we take all their songs and pool them together as one, should those two be included? Or in our minds should we place them in a separate category all together as nothing more than pre-AC/DC material that just happened to make it on vinyl? The "completest" side of me is all for including that single from a music perspective, but at the same time it's almost like we're dealing with two different bands.
This is the way I see things: AC/DC has and always has been the Young brother's band, and the way they want to handle Dave Evans is totally their decision. Plus, if my memory serves me correctly, the songs on the Can I sit Next to You Girl single were primarily written by Malcolm, therefore Evans was just there to SING it. Personally, the only thing that matters to me is the fact that Malcolm and Angus are associated with the name AC/DC, which is what you get with the Can I Sit Next to You Girl single. @SG, I think that WE should at least recognize that Evans sang the single, only because we are more than your average fans, but I don't think the average AC/DC fan needs to be aware of Evans and his contribution to the "moderately successful" Australian single of 1974.
HE IS A FUCKING BASTARD WHO MUST DIE! ALL HE DO IS TO USE AC/DC's NAME(UNDER THE "SLOGAN": THE ORIGINAL AC/DC FOUNDER-SINGER!!!!!!!") JUST FOR TO SALE HIS CDs... MANY PPL LIKE HIM OR AGREE WITH HIM,BUT HEY!STUPID!THE HISTORY OF OUR LADS WAS(N STILL IS) WRITTEN BY ANGUS,MALCOLM,BON,BRIAN,CLIFF,RUDD(MARK,CHRIS AND SIMON). @Maj I'M WITH YOU 666% ALL THE WAY LAD. SALUTE YOU ALL! :) P.S.: ...that sucker Alistair Kinnear died before two-three years lost in the sea,but this butthole dave its still alive... ...Mother Nature owes BON still a favour!!!
