12 Of The Best Cassette??

Photobucket So I stumbled upon this picture yesterday and thought about what I've read posted on various sites (all the exact same thing), saying this idea was scrapped, no records were ever produced, and only a handful of sleeves were made. But this begs my question, is this a hoax or is this cassette something of a real release?? I see the Albert Music Copyright and Logo but it's too blurry to make out everything. If anyone can clear up it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Cheers :)

I think there were a few test copies of the cassette made (only a small number though, enough to give to people in Alberts / AC/DC to check the sequencing and stuff) but no records were made (and this was years before CD). It looks like there is a date of 1978 on the case insert, that leads me to believe that Alberts wanted two albums that year, and they got their two albums. Malcolm Young (and to a lesser extent, Angus) is fundamentally against the idea of releasing a "greatest hits" package, he wants the fans to get the songs as they were originally recorded and released, not a dumbed down collection of what some record company exec thinks their best songs were. They did manage to convince him to let a release of a live album go through, and If You Want Blood was released in the place of 12 Of The Best.

Albert planned to release that record/cassette in '78 but it was cancelled because at the time, based on what I read from somewhere, the record company were afraid that this release would hurt the sales of "Powerage." The live album "If You Want Blood You've Got It" was released instead. A while back, I had made a bootleg replica of this album by gathering all of the tracks from all of the CDs I had that contained the songs that were on this cancelled LP release.

Thanks for the info guys!! Definitely didn't know anything other than the guys are generally against a greatest hits/best of kind of things. Thanks for the rest of the info guys! And Doc, I did the same thing as you, mainly to have a reason to have the artwork on my iPod at the time, which I really like :P

I also made a cd-r with all 12 tracks and added the nice artwork to go with it. Sad this idea was scrapped, would have made an excellent album with some rockin' tracks ;)

I did that a few years ago too^^ lol Someone has made a great scan of the artwork too (could be a re-creation, not sure, but it's nice!) There are 2 versions for the artwork also, UK and Australian, slight variations. _________________________________ UK http://www.albumartexchange.com/gallery/images/public/ac/acdc-12ofth_04.jpg AUS http://www.albumartexchange.com/gallery/images/public/ac/acdc-12ofth_02.jpg

The cassette is real btw.Few years ago there was one to be sold for 8.000$ but i can't remember what happened.I was too busy pissing NightProwler off with the idea that a cassette is more rare than it's Polydor LP :P

Like Sap, I also remember a legit cassette for sale on ebay a few years ago. sold for a few thousand, not sure of the exact amount though. The above picture looks like the same that was on the ebay listing. Cool item. There will probably never be another for sale.

It appears that "officially" the cassettes don't exist (just like "officially" Rockin In The Parlour doesn't exist) http://www.acdc.com/us/acdc-today/acdc-rarity-month-12-best Ain't it nice to know more than the "official" guys? And here's the UK version of the cover: http://www.acdcfans.net/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=282&g2_serialNumber=2

I thought the "UK version" looked a little "too good." If you catch my drift...it still looks pretty awesome and would look great on iTunes tagging.
