Got hit by a fucking copyright strike on YouTube
Yesterday, one of my videos with the song "Round and Round" by Bon Scott got removed due to a copyright claim by Blue Pie Productions, which gave me a ridiculous copyright strike. I've had that video up for about two and a half years, and it took them that long to find it?!?!? If my account gets terminated, it's no big deal, I'll just come back and make a new one. Why can't all copyright holders just stop bitching and whining and moaning about how other people infringe their copyrighted works? Ever since the DMCA went into law, it's just driving everybody crazy. It's amazing how this country is really fucked up these days. What ever shall we do about that?
We need to fuckin revolt against our government like in Greece, bring the tear gas on, only affects you if you are not wearing a mask. This country is becoming a shithole, if I had the money I would move in a heartbeat!
The fucking got me too Doc!!! Same video, gave me my second strike (mine had been up for about a year or so). Hate those assholes, they got my first youtube channel and I bet they'll get this one. Luckily I've been saving all my videos on my hard drive in case it happens again.I'll be back if it ends again....... Sorry to hear it happened to you Doc, was a subscriber on there, hope your new channel becomes even stronger!
Bull**** with this country. They make laws and then fall back on them like they never existed. Have they ever heard of the "fair use" law?? Check section 107 of this country's copyright laws!! Then get back to us and explain for what cause and right you had to take down our material (posted) from and for another that allows others to comment and criticize it, without infringing on any copyrights.... I can't wait till I'm out of here and have my family in Italy.... No offense America ;)
Sorry for my language guys but I'm just a little fed up with the "laws" unenforced... I don't like it much or politics either and that's what it all boils down to here. And no one wins. Keep kicking with accounts and don't let them win though!! :P Cheers
All I can say is be thankful all they did was take down your video.
BigNate: Righthaven, the company that chased down and humiliated you, filed for bankruptcy sometime in the last year. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/09/righthaven-on-life-support/ It's too bad they put such fear into you to begin with, because you were really not doing anything that wrong. If anything, you were helping to drive users to the sites that you quoted from.
I've been following their decline since they nabbed me, so it's good to see some of the groups that got sued fighting back. Sounds like the guy running the whole operation is a sleezy fuck. Technically, I did take their work and post it on my site. Even though I sited the source and linked to the article, I was in the wrong since I didn't ask permission. While most companies would have sent a take down notice, Righthaven skipped that part and went right to the lawsuit. What gets me is that they most likely didn't even have the right to sue me in the first place. They worked out a deal with the paper that said they had rights to the news articles when in fact they didn't, and based all of their initial lawsuits on those rights that they didn't have. Had I known this, I probably still couldn't have afforded a lawyer, but at least it worked out for a number of other groups & individuals that were able to get the lawsuits dismissed.
^ As the saying goes Nate, what comes around goes around. We all know you follow the appropriate procedures/steps like citing and providing links to the source of material, and this could have happened to anyone. But very rare do you get fucks like Righthaven who think they can come along and act ignorant trying to make one's life hell. Glad these bastards got what they deserve. Karma is a bitch.
Nate: "All I can say is be thankful all they did was take down your video." Maybe you're right, Nate. Perhaps I may have overreacted to this whole situation about how I received a copyright strike on one of my vids, even though these copyright holders took two and a half years to finally discover it and then file a copyright infringement complaint, lol. But still, it's amazing how really fucked up society is these days. We got the upper class people picking on the lower and/or middle class for no apparent reason, lots of ridiculous and bullshit laws going into effect... the list goes on. I thought this was supposed to be a free country, not a fascist-communist nation where we the citizens can't do what we want to do because it's either frowned upon and/or it's illegal. What the hell happened to society?
Dammit with US legislation. That's all i can say right now.Hope they migrate all the companies to another country so you can be free to post whatever you like.
Very true nate, we should be glad that's all we got. However, I will say it is extremely frustrating when you've worked about 3 years(or more) posting music/footage for AC/DC fans like us,then have some asshole company tell you you're close to having it shutdown.........even though what you're doing will likely influence the purchase of an album by that artist. (most of if not all are bootlegs, although a few I will say aren't) All that work...gone, the savaging, the audio/DVD ripping, the editing of album art/music. Sucks lol.
After having the copyright strike on my account for about 6 months, it has finally expired and disappeared so now the copyright strikes section on my account features page is back to good standing :D I certainly learned my lesson: I just have to be careful of what I upload in the future so I don't get another strike on my account like the last time ;)
