Hoax CD I bought today (at a used record store, not from eBay)

Man, have I got a rather interesting story to tell all of you! Today, I bought a copy what appeared to be the "Stiff Upper Lip" album with the bonus CD at a used record store in Beaverton, Oregon for about $8. But after I bought it and looked at it, this so-called "Tour Edition" of SUL was a hoax. It was just a one-disc jewel case with the insert and disc of the 2004 Epic reissue of the album, and the back cover is that of the real SUL Tour Edition. I guess some clever smartass put that together on purpose just to rip off whoever buys the CD at the store, unbeknownst to the store employees who did the buy-back of this CD in the first place. I learned my lesson. You should never judge a book-- errm, I mean a CD by it's front cover and/or back cover. It was hard to tell if the CD was real or not anyway because the CD was locked in a security CD case the store owners use for every CD in order to prevent you from shoplifting the discs. Oh, well. This wasn't the first time I was ripped off in some way, lol. Not to worry, though. I'll just look for a 2 CD jewel case I have laying around my house somewhere, and then I'll create a CD-R version of the missing bonus CD.

Was it shrinkwrapped (like sandwich wrap) or "factory" wrapped (the way most CDs are done, with a stiff plastic)? If it was shrinkwrapped it's on the record store, they should've inspected a little closer. You said it was in a security case so obviously it went through someone's hands.

The CD case was in a lock case, which looked much like this one: http://www.moviemat.com/images/Product/Store_Equip/CD_lock_Case.jpg

I don't think they ship from the label's distributor with that on them...so obviously someone who worked for the store had to handle the CD. But mixed copyright dates aren't uncommon so that wasn't an immediate red flag IMO, the fact that it has a tracklisting for 2 CDs, a booklet for only one, and only one CD is a BIG red flag that it's not entirely kosher. One example of mixed dates is a copy of the Crocodile Dundee trilogy three-pack I have. The DVDs themselves say "(C) 2001," which I'm guessing was bare-bones early releases (done at the same time as Crocodile Dundee In LA's release), but the case insert says "(C) 2008" and the cardboard slipcase it came in says "(C) 2009." If that isn't cheaply recycling the same copies of a disc over and over what is?

I'm planning to resell that hoax CD (along with other CDs) to that same store in Beaverton tomorrow, because I already made a CD-R of the SUL bonus CD years ago, and the videos themselves are already on Family Jewels Disc 3. Let somebody else get ripped off by this fake :P
