About bandwidth problem.
Nate (or whoever runs this site) Just an idea. Would you consider putting up a donations link to help defrey the costs to having more bandwidth? I would throw a few bucks in every month through PAYPAL. This is a great idea and it would be cool to keep it up. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would help out.
he said in the "Site Improvements" topic that he might start that, along with paid memberships
Oh O.K. thanks. I'm (obviously) new here and didn't see that.
Sorry for the late reply, I was out of town this weekend. In total, I have 100 gig of bandwidth allowed to my account per month. I have to split this between every site I host (I run about 7-8 websites total). Up until last month, acdc-bootlegs.com was taking up about 30 gig/month. That means, from viewing the website and people downloading the BOTM, 30 gig (or 30,000 meg) of information was being taken from the website. In February, the amount of bandwidth used jumped to about 50 gig. I made the changes I needed to with the other sites I host, and was able to handle the increase. This month, I hit 50 gig after just 2 days of having the BOTM available. I increased it to 70 gig and that was used up 2 days later. I rearranged my other sites to use less bandwidth and set the new limit for acdc-bootlegs.com at 85 gig. That was reached a few days later, so I'm now using the extra 5 gig I set aside to just keep the website online. I haven't priced out what the additional bandwidth would cost monthly, but on my previous server it was about $5 per 500 meg of transfer after 3 gig. If I were still on that server, this past month would have cost me roughly $820 (if I did my math correctly, someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Luckily, I've moved to a more appropriate server that allows me to get more for my money. Once I go through and make some updates to the site, I'll be adding a page that will let everyone see what kind of stats this site pulls in (bandwidth usage, visits, new members, etc) to give you an idea of how popular this site is really getting. I'm very grateful for everyone joining, and hope to keep the site running to spread the bootlegs. I hope to have some decisions made by May 1 (if not sooner) about donations, paid memberships, etc and will let you all know. Nate
Nate, I would be interested in checking out the other sites that you run as well. Are they music or AC/DC based? Even if they are not, I would like to check them out because I like the way that you have this one set up. Your site is my favorite on the net. Thanks
Nate one way to help solve the problem is to use Bit Torrent. Make a torrent file out of the boot of the month, upload it to whatever tracker, and then everyone can get it from there.

Powerage66, How do torrents work? I have gone to a few torrents to get MEGADETH stuff but have never figured out how it works, and needless to say, I have never been able to get anything.
First you need to download a BT client like Bit Tornado and install it. There are others, I like Bit Tornado though. When you click on the torrent you want to download you open it with the BT client and then save it to where ever you want. As you download, you will also upload what you downloaded to other users. Also use Peer Gaurdian when using BT so all bad IP's are blocked, RIAA for example. To make a torrent to upload, there is a progam called MakeTorrent2. Here are a couple sites I use, and they have a FAQ section also. www.torrentbox.com torrentspy.com www.torrentkube.org
