ANGUS YOUNG Voted #1 'Rock Icon' in Kerrang!
Hey Riff Raff, Here is some well deserved news>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AC/DC's ANGUS YOUNG Voted #1 'Rock Icon' in Kerrang! Posted By Joe Bilbo G on 03.21.07 According to Sony BMG, U.K. music magazine Kerrang! has tallied up the hardest, most legendary rockers of this century and crowned AC/DC's Angus Young as the top "Rock Icon," beating some of the biggest names in the business. Young was also awarded the Kerrang! "Legend" award last August after the band's classic albums "Highway to Hell" and "The Razor's Edge" broke their previous sales records. Young has outshone fellow nominees like NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain, GREEN DAY's Billie Joe Armstrong, METALLICA's James Hetfield, PANTERA's "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, FOO FIGHTERS' Dave Grohl and EVANESCENCE's Amy Lee for the honor. The entire "Icons" list can be found at the GreenDay Website. This is the second Kerrang! gong for Young, who was presented last August with the "Legend" award at the 13th annual Kerrang! Awards after a bonza year of AC/DC album sales in the U.S. with their classic 1979 album "Highway to Hell" certified septuple platinum sales and 1990's "The Razor's Edge" surpassing the five-million mark. In 2005, AC/DC's epic album "Back In Black" also tied as the fifth best-selling album in the U.S. of all time. www.Blabbermouth.net
Way to go Angus, gotta say that Kerrang! has always been pretty good on their 'DC features during the 80's & 90's, at least. They were top band etc in a few polls early 80's including best rock tune 'Rosie' ( a few others made top ten) in the 1st issue with Angus on the cover and heavily featured in early issues roundabout when 'FTATR' was out, pretty good articles too. Nice to see them still recognising class, even after all the decent writers have long since gone. Superb, Bon woulda been chuffed ;-)
Congratulations to Angus, he was in some extrememely competitive running, including Kurt Cobain, which you say his name people immediately think, "Oh, that dude in Nirvana who killed himself." Calli, I think had the guys at "Kerrang!" gave it more thought, Angus, Mal, Cliff, Phil, Slade, Brian, and Bon would've tied for number one, so they would've found four pics of AC/DC, Powerage-era, Back In Black-era, Razor's Edge/Big Gun-era, and Ballbreaker/Stiff Upper Lip-era.
Congratulaitons Caveman Angus ! His best work was with the album Let There Be Rock, very underrated album I think, though theres way to many good albums out there.
let's just say this, ac/dc music will out live all of us. also how about some more music at least. new or "from the vaults"
