african acetates
Does anybody have a copy of "The African Acetates" that doesnt jump? I downloaded it from two sites and its the same one. Anyone got a good version?
Oh, you've hit something senisitive there. What are you talking about "jump"ing. Are you saying the audio quality is low? Well, those things come from 30 year old acetate records. Acetates are notorious for the treble roll-off.
if anyone is planning on taking this topic where it has gone in the past, don't. I will delete the thread. I haven't listened to my copy in a while, but I don't remember it skipping.
nate,no worries,i told all the kiddies b4 in the past that i don't give a damn about that anymore, just like the last time, they all just think they're getting under my skin when all they did was make me laugh my ass off. it was done over way b4 flying fudge & the rest of the get along gang seeded them. besides,i now got alot more of them including the double dynamite lp (high voltage/dirty deeds) ,& the complete back in black lp all from africa & with way diffent mixes & no,i will not give, trade or whatever for them, they're off the table to all. also, watch for my new boot to come out in the very new future, ;-)
Oops. Didnt know there was any history with this one. I gather it was nightprowler who put this out? If it was, sorry mate. Dont want to cause any hassle. Just thought it was someone not looking after their vinyl, thats all. Sorry again. Ill just go back in my hole and stay for a while!!!!!
Hello all, I haven't been keeping up for a long time. Can someone please give me a rundown of what the African Acetates are? Many thanks!
Nightprowler, can you take this one? you know better than any of us the source of these songs & I'd appreciate it if you could give a good answer. Thanks dude.
ok,well i guess i can do that,if i have to................i guess, ;-) these acetates were mono referance test samples made by teal record company in johannesburg, south africa under licence by atlantic records. they were used to test out different mixes & to check that the transfer from tape to disc would be sucessful. only 1 of each different mix was ever produced until they settled on a final copy which would go to print. they are not 1 channel cut out prints like 1 mr. thinks he knows it all says, they are in mono. in otherwords, both channels combined into 1. they are very rare to find & worth really big money to collectors like myself. "Acetates are notorious for the treble roll-off" what??? you have no idea what the hell your talking about. acetates are what are used to make the pressing platters for the final vinyl run,if your comment was even slightly correct,i would be amazed beyond belief. here a couple of links to show you how they are made: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xUGRRUecBik http://youtube.com/watch?v=IReDh9ec_rk&feature=related anyhows, here's the pics of most of the african acetates i have, the other 2 i got (double dynamite & black in black lp's)will be pictured soon along with about 50-60 other collectible vinyls that i have recently added to the WAY oversized collection,;-) photo 1 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4 photo 5 photo 6 photo 7 photo 8
Hey, thanks alot for the information. Very interesting indeed.
I found some information on the Back In Black acetates. Apparently, a collector was taking offers for these a few years ago (the page is from 2004): 10" Acetates Since my last page update I have had many inquiries about detail on these acetates, I am hoping to get some good trade offers on them but as of yet nothing has been worked out. Anyway, please see detail on each Acetate below. All are original 10" MONO acetates that have been in storage for over 20 years, all feature slightly different mixes than the standard release and were manufactured by TEAL records, Gallo Africa. The sound mix on these are all pretty strange as Malcolm's guitar dominates the mix accept during Angus' solos. All are in EX++ to Mint - condition (have some very light sleeve scuff markings) All play at 33RPM, detail on each below: HELLS BELLS: 2 Sided, Side one has to short test mixes of the songs with extended Bell chimes and both fade out before vocal. Side 2 has the full version of the song With Extended Bell Chime Intro and Bell chimes added at the end, very strange! SHAKE A LEG / BACK IN BLACK: One Sided, Vocals seem to really stand out on Shake a Leg as well as the guitar solos. Back in black starts abruptly, no cymbal count at the beginning. Has writing on label indicating Test Tones. HAVE A DRINK ON ME / HAVE A DRINK ON ME (Edited): One Sided, As with all of the others has a different mix, On the Edited version the Guitar intro is shortened. YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG / SHOOT TO THRILL: One Sided, You shook me has an especially strange mix, intro guitars sound very different and vocals really stand out. Intro Chords are cut off on shoot to thrill and Phil's Drums and Malcolm's guitar dominate the "quiet" part of the song after the solo. GIVIN' THE DOG A BONE / BACK IN BLACK: One Sided, Not a radically different mix, No Cymbal count intro on Back In Black. SHOOT TO THRILL / SHOOT TO THRILL (Edited): Same mix as the You Shook Me acetate described above, Edited Version has the intro cut off. http://home.insight.rr.com/dirtcheap/
